Orioles are actively pursuing both Mike Morse and Oliver Perez of the #Mariners today, accdg to a source. Would like a combo deal.

I still like Morse to fill DH role, but Perez???

Perez would make someone in the BP expendable. Maybe trade McFarland?

As a Mets fan I can assure you, you do not want Oliver Perez.... unless your ball boy got injured then he might be able to stand in for him.

As a Mets fan, what's your opinion of Francisco Rodriguez? We already acquired him.

I don't understand the Perez rumor. We already have 3 lefthanders in our bullpen.

Perez's #'s compared to our 3 LH guys is better in just about every category. Perez has pitched the same amount of innings as Matusz, but Perez has almost a whole run lower ERA. Perez also has almost twice as many K's as Matusz. Perez would be a very good pickup, IMO, but only if the expendable one is McFarland, as his era is almost twice what Perez's is.

McFarland- 52.1 IP, 4.13 ERA, 56 hits, 1.41 WHIP, 0.2 WAR, 43 strikeouts
Matusz- 38.1 IP, 3.29 ERA, 30 hits, 1.10 WHIP, 0.5 WAR, 32 strikeouts
Patton- 42.1 IP, 3.83 ERA, 44 hits, 1.35 WHIP, 0.2 WAR, 27 strikeouts

Perez- 38.1 IP, 2.35 ERA, 32 hits, 1.28 WHIP, 1.1 WAR, 52 strikeouts

As I said on the Mariners board anyone who trades for Morse is getting a great deal. He hit 11 HRs in 200 ABs with the Mariners, his BA was a bit low at .250 but I think that was mainly because the Mariners offense was really struggling when Morse was healthy and he was swinging for the fences a lot.

If he went to the O's when healthy he would be a great addition.

Oliver Perez would be a solid pickup as well. So far this year he has had a 2.35 ERA in 38 innings and had a 2.12 last year in 29 innings.

Just be happy you're not the Mariners, we're like a grocery store for winning teams.

Bit of a headcase but I still think he has the talent.... but can also be too emotional.

The one thing I can say positive about Perez is if you put him in a big spot he seems to thrive off the pressure. But July game against the Padres he could throw the ball over a plate the size of Shea Stadium. In 06 we put him in in the Playoffs and he played great the next year he was so sporadic we had to send him to the minors.

Perez is good as a reliever, so he has value there. Morse is a guy if healthy would help alot from the right side DH, Urrutia isn't ready to switch hit. I wouldn't give up a Rodriguez for them but maybe two lesser prospects and a roster guy like Flaherty.

I wonder if something like Xavier Avery, McFarland, and another minor leaguer would get it done?

Right, something like that with maybe a decent lower level pitcher too.

You're talking about a franchise that gave up Doug Fister for Casper Wells, David Pauley, Charlie Furbush and Francisco Martinez.

If you feel the need to google those players to see who they are, don't bother. None of them are anything worth looking up.

You could throw a few low level phucking AA prospects at us and we would probably take it. You're talking about a franchise that trades away quality players for garbage prospects on a regular basis. We will happily take your junk off your hands and be thrilled with it in the name of "rebuilding".

In all seriousness I'd rip my fucking hair out if the Mariners traded Morse and Perez for that bunch of trash. But that's the type of trades the Mariners make on a regular basis so it would not surprise me in the slightest.

You're talking about a 40 yr old relief pitcher and a injured DH type, you aren't going to get top 5 prospects for them. The M's are in transition to "rebuilding" so quantity of decent prospects would help them.
