I think it's somewhat fair. Seeing that if they didn't self-impose, they could have made the ACCCG with a shot at the Orange Bowl.. which would be their highest point since joining the ACC. It would've been worse if they decided to self-impose after either losing to Duke or losing the ACCCG.

Miami already lost to FSU this year, and facing them again would likely lead to the same result. The odds are highly against an Orange Bowl.
Deciding about the Post season when you know what bowl you'll likely end up in, and when your record is 6-5, isn't the same as deciding pre-season when the sky is the limit.
The NCAA needs to take this move with a grain of salt.

Sounds like we've moved up to the Russell Athletic Bowl (Orlando) with Miami pulling their name out of the hat. VT with H2H wins vs. GT and Duke, so it would be between NCSU and VT.

ESPN's bowl bound projections (as of last week, before Miami dropping out) had us in the Hyudai Sun Bowl vs USC. I would much rather see that game than a game vs a thrid big east team
if we play USC and we lose, hey we suck this year anyways...if we win, at least that will give the boys something to hang their hats on going into the offseason...we can dub it the Disappointment Bowl, preseason #1 vs preseason 16
