good for the U, they are starting to look like they are on the way back to being the U
losing 9 scholarships is nothing
the NCAA is proving to be as useful as Arkansas offense vs Bama

We all know USC got screwed over. Not sure why USC fans want everyone else to get screwed too. At least the NCAA has learned they suck and aren't making the same mistake.

Guess misery really does love company

I don't really care what the NCAA does with Miami or any other program. But I do think they should be fair and consistent in their rulings. I have yet to hear the NCAA list any precendent they followed or set in coming out the way they did against USC.

Oh, well that's very comforting. I am SOO glad they learned their lesson. If they truly
learned their lesson
they would have agreed to reduce the absurd penalty, levied against USC. I don't want to hear your bullshit, because it directly benefits the Ducks.

What i hate is people want to lower the boom, when a good portion of what is talked about it the ramblings of a person who is a known criminal and not very trustworthy.

Miami self imposed three post season games, one CCG and two bowls and lost revenue from not being in all three.

Now the NCAA has levied its penalties and lets not forget the NCAA did some questionable things to try to get Miami. Dont punish these kids any further for the actions of guys playing in the NFL or sitting in an office somewhere, its not this current group that is to blame.

No, they didn't lose any revenue at all. In fact, the school saved money. Miami was heading to two terrible bowl games in '11 (they went 6-6) and in '12 (they went 7-5). Their shitty fan base doesn't even attend home games, do you honestly think Miami fans were going to spend money to travel and watch Miami play in the Jerkoff Bowl the last 2 years? The school would have to eat the number of allotment of tickets that weren't sold, plus, the school would have to eat the cost of travel expenses. Even with teams who have loyal fan and alumni bases lose money with the smaller, irrelevant bowls b/c the payout from these bowls do not come close to covering the overall expenses for the school. Shalala and the AD knew this, so it made it an easier decision to "ban" themselves from the bowl games. Besides, Miami was going to get bowl money from the other schools who played in bowl games, why lose thousands upon thousands of dollars from attending the Jerkoff Bowl when they can make money by just sitting out and collect a paycheck from the other schools?

Take all the factors into account and they lost money in the end. Sure, they may have lost money if they went to a bowl, we dont know this for sure and certainly not the given that you seem to make it out to be. When a team doesnt play in a bowl game, it has the potential to lose recruits, which is a concern, it loses potential revenue, which is a concern, it loses a chance for its fan base that is located in areas not close to Miami to see them play, which is a concern. You see the loss of revenue and think its the only thing they missed out on, but self imposing CCG ban and two bowl bans is not just the loss of potential revenue, its so much more than that.

All the above is really irrelevant most teams lose money going to crappy bowl games anyway.

The number one reason to accept a bowl bid no matter how bad a bowl it is would be the additional practice that you get. This equates to an extra spring training that coaches use to the full extent to get young players ready for the next year. As much as 75% of the early practices will be devoted to player development and to miss out on this can be a VERY big deal.

Money you can make up but practice time is something heavily regulated by the NCAA and every second is important.

Example: Nick Saban was asked when was the last time he did something unplanned and on a whim in practice this past week on his call in show. He went silent and finally admitted he couldn't think of a time when he had. Trust me every second of practice is planned, mapped out and executed because due to the restrictions you can't afford to waste any of it.

my take is there has to be the same standard for every school. it even looks worse that they cut penn st some slack then when pat haden notices and says oh really that's what were doing now then they say uphold all the sanctions on USC...seems someone on the panel has a grudge with USC.

People want to lower the boom because they compare this to USC. USC was one guy, Bush where the Miami issues was many more. Its true the criminal is not trustworthy but nothing he has said about his dealings with Miami has been found to be a lie and much was already admitted to by the players.

However I am with you, not for the same reason. I think with the NCAA jacking this up the years of limbo is enough punishment. If they would have done this right and finished it years ago, not nearly enough for 10 years of money.

9 scholly reduction over three years and restrictions on recruit contacts.

Nothing terrible but still somewhat impactful for depth and cutthroat Florida recruiting. Seems legit.

For those who think we got a slap on the wrist.

When Miami did not play in a bowl game in 2011, did not play in the ACC Championship in 2012, and did not play in a bowl game in 2012, that was Miami taking a massive punishment.
When Miami missed 34 football practices because of skipping bowl games, that was Miami being punished.
When Miami showed up to the Maryland game in 2011 and lost a close game missing 8 starters, that was Miami being punished.
When DeQuan Jones was suspended 10 games likely resulting in the Canes missing the NCAA tournament in 2012, that was Miami being punished.
When Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson were both suspended last minute to cost the Canes both an NCAA Tournament opportunity in 2012 and a likely 1-seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, that was Miami being punished.
When Al Golden tries to recruit and has to refute claims by blowhards that Miami is going to get the death penalty, that is Miami being punished.
When the NCAA takes four years to simply regurgitate a lot of flimsy accusations, lump on additional penalties, and then drop these penalties on Miami mid-week during the football season, that is Miami being punished.

Again, I don't know the ACC bowl tie in's. You went 6-6 in 2011 and 7-5 in 2012, you weren't going to any BCS bowl and you weren't going to any other 2nd tier bowl game with a high payout. Miami was probably headed to the Independence Bowl in 2011 (shitty bowl) seeing how a 6-6 UNC team played in that bowl that year. In 2012, Miami was probably heading to the Belk Bowl where a 6-6 Duke team played or the Russell Athletic Bowl where a 7-6 VA Tech team played (both shitty bowls).

You really do not need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Miami was headed to two shit bowls in '11 and '12 and that the school would have lost money by attending those two bowls.
