This just cracks me up and shows how badly most Miami fans do not understand what is causing the problems. Might be robotic, but hopefully not.

Has been on the news, blogs, and radio in Miami.

I'd give him about 3 more years at least. He has a great 2015 class and an awesome start to the 2016 recruiting class.

I think UF had the original grass roots uprising online with fireronzook.com. It was a hilarious site from what I remember.

Would have been nice to have GoFundMe back then......

So glad he didn't come back to PSU and so glad he's ruining Miami.

It has become very hard for a University with fewer than 25k undergrads to compete for national championships...

Which came first? the Chicken or the Egg? here is a study on how athletic success affects admissions applications:

http://www.thesmartjournal.com/admissions.pdf

I was at Santa Clara University they year after Brandi Chastain (a Santa Clara alumna) scored the winning goal kick in the Women's World cup and ripped of her shirt exposing her sports bra. That year, applications for admission tripled. They called it "the Chastain effect."

So go figure. Maybe the smaller enrollment schools just need to put a better product on the field, and then their numbers will go up.

That's not the problem. The problem started when Shalala wanted to clean up the program, hence the reason Thug U is now just the U. They can't recruit anymore dumbshit, illiterate, fast as fuck thugs from the 'Hood anymore. Totally killed the program.....

Yeah, I couldn't get admitted to Miami either.

Did you watch the 30 for 30 segment about The U? It went into detail about this when the school decided to put more effort into fielding a winning football team. Academic requirements had to be lowered when they hired Schnellenbeger and he started recruiting the ghettos.....

I'd say what killed that was the modern cell phone video era. Have you ever stopped to really really consider the fact that more than 50% of Americans have smart phones with video recording technology. That's 150,000,000+ video cameras walking around at all times. It has become considerably harder for programs to cheat and athletes to misbehave/break the law and not get caught on video.

The legitimate costs for competing on the national stage for a championship are steep. You need the money to pay for a top notch head coach AND (and this is just as important) top notch assistant coaches. You need the money to pay for top notch practice facilities. You need the money to pay for a national network of recruiters that can visit high school blue chips anywhere at any time and shmooze them.

With the exception of Notre Dame, Universities with fewer than 25k undergrads don't have the financial resources to compete with the big boys. Miami has 10k undergrads. That's 15k fewer students to buy home tickets, and merchandise, and makes for a much much much smaller alumni base.

I remember the Schnellenberger years quite well. He sported graduation rates as low as in the 20% range. It was an abomination. (Of course, he also had Bernie Kosar who managed to graduate in 3 years.)

The last time a "small" university won the NC was in 2001. Only 3 times has a "small" university even played for the title. (Miami twice, Notre Dame once). Most of these big universities have been big for awhile now. They have a large number of alumni that can donate money to the program. It is very very hard for anyone with under 20k undergrads (and yes I said 25k earlier, I"m revising this) to compete financially.

The notion that small schools can raise big bank is completely false. Here is a list of the six largest endowments for universities and they respective undergraduate enrollments.

HTML:
University Endowment (in billions) Enrollment
Harvard University $32.334 6722
Yale University $20.780 5430
University of Texas $20.448 39979 (Austin)
Stanford University $18.668 7061
Princeton University $18.200 5323
MIT $11.005 2368
The University of Texas endowment refers to the entire system, but the enrollment is only for the Austin campus. Certainly, endowment isn't tied to success on the football field, but it is a measure of a school's ability to raise money. Draw your own conclusions. (One I draw is that Harvard is very rich.)
