Memorial Cup

begins Friday in Brandon, Manitoba. The host Wheat Kings are joined by the Calgary Hitmen (WHL champs), Windsor Spitfires (OHL and defending Memorial Cup champs) and the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL champs). Brandon and Windsor kick off the festivities Friday night.

This is usually a great tourney featuring end-to-end action played at a frenetic pace.

Tough way to start. Off for nearly 3 weeks after losing to Calgary in the ECF and then drawing defending champs Windsor in the first game. At least Brandon has last chance for that one! Could be a drubbing.


The 08 Chiefs and 07 Tigers both would have beat 09 Windsor in the final. Just saying.

Well Brandon just got massacred by Windsor. But at least I got to watch it in HD. I have a feeling that tomorrow's game will be slightly closer and even Brandon's next game against Moncton should be better. For as great as the Flyers/Bruins game was, this one lacked in entertainment, lol.

Just saw the highlights. I'm surprised Hall got up from that headfirst ride into the boards yearly in the game. I didn't know backs could bend that way.
He scored on one hell of a dangle later on though.

Great game. This one made up for last night's. I was glad to see Calgary pull off the comeback, it's the Hitmen who usually blow it. Kind of unfortunate the bounce that lead to the winning goal, but those things happen. Moncton is going to have to rebound facing Brandon tomorrow or else they will be facing elimination with Windsor still to play. Tomorrow's game will hopefully be a dandy. But Calgary/Windsor is the one I'm really looking forward to.

Woohoo! So glad the Hit Men beat the Wildcats. I don't care who wins as long as its not them! They beat out my Sea Dogs in the finals so yeah I'm still bitter. It might not be the battle of Alberta but the battle of NB has finally started to heat up after 5 years.

Hamonic is a stud. I'm not sure how much you've had a chance to see him, but at the last World Junior Championship, Canada's defense got a heck of a lot weaker when he got hurt.

Looks like the Q is once again the weak link at the Memorial Cup, which will once again bring up the debate among Q fans that there are too many teams for the talent pool. Normally I cheer on the Q team but as previously mentioned, I can't bring myself to cheer for the Wildcats. Would love to see them go 0-3 which they most likely will.
