With MDZ's arbitration hearing scheduled for 7/20, what do you think he'll get?
I'm expecting 1 year - 5.25ish.
I expect MDZ is looking for 5ish and long term, and Hexy doesn't want to do long term. He's fine with the number, but not with the length. Hence arbitration. The result is typically a 1 year deal which is perfect for Hextall.
True but that was one year arbitration may offer a bridge deal to prove it. Either way I wouldn't be pissed if it's over 4 M.35th in the NHL in points per game by a defender is pretty good. I expect that will balloon is number a bit. Plus, defensemen just get PAID these days.
With 8 d-men on one-way deals, who gets traded or do they try to stash Manning back in the AHL and risk losing him to a waiver claim? Obviously MacDonald is the guy I'd most like to see get moved, but that's not happening. Nick Schultz may actually be the most likely candidate. I don't see them trading Streit, or Schenn with the brother connection. Gudas is probably just as good as Schultz for a lot less salary. Manning could be part of the future D core. Medvedev? Well, I just don't see him being moved, can't really say why.
I think Manning will get stashed. I think he'll be an AHL/NHL tweener guy for most of his career.
