We used to have a fool who told us that Mathis couldn't play in the NFL anymore. That Kelly was right to cut him. That Tobin was better than Mathis.

And here's Mathis, starting guard in the Super Bowl. Looks like Mathis had the last laugh.

Whatever happened to that fool?

I bet he'd rather have the $3 million.

Who needs Evan Mathis when you have Matt Tobin?

In terms of the $3 million, yeah he lost money overall but he does get about $170k extra by virtue of playing in the playoffs and Super Bowl. Of course he also had extra games, but for a guy like this at the tail end of his career, this is about as good as he could ever want--a chance for a ring.

Haha he has nothing else to say. He's a G on a Manning team. If you think in three years being in a Super Bowl will be more important than $3 million you're nuts. He whined for three years for more money.

If you already have multiple millions, which he does, I think yes, playing a SB is more important than a few million more. This is why a lot of guys sign for less with teams like the Patriots and Broncos.

For someone at the end of his career it is nice to have a Superbowl. However this thread makes it seem as though Evan Matthews was the player that put the Bronco's over the top to get to the Superbowl. That alone is flat ridiculous.

Surprised he is scheduled to start. According to NFL.com he was benched for four of the last six regular season games. Good for him that he has put together a couple of starts at a critical time. I suspect he is about two weeks away from being unemployed again though.

He may be unemployed with a SB ring, something no Eagles player has ever had.

Considering he spent 3 years complaining that it was all about the money, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that losing 3 mil is kind of a big deal to him. Probably won't be feeling much better about it come Monday morning either.

I know you are not that bright, so I will spell it out:

No player has ever won a SB with the Eagles because they have never won a SB.

Of course, Reggie White and numerous others have won SBs after leaving the team. And many won before joining the Eagles.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Evan Mathis got released by the Eagles because Chip Kelly didn't want to give the two-time Pro Bowl guard a raise. Kurt Coleman got dumped by Kelly a year earlier.

Things turned out super for both guys.

Mathis is blocking for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Coleman led Carolina with seven interceptions and picked two more passes in the NFC championship game.

As for Kelly, he landed in San Francisco too - after the Eagles fired him and he became the 49ers new coach.

''This is the ultimate dream for a football player to be able to play in the Super Bowl,'' Mathis said. ''It's much more valuable (than money).''

Coleman was a seventh-round pick who started 27 games for the Eagles before Kelly arrived in 2013 and made him a backup. The safety played for Kansas City in 2014 and rejuvenated his career with the Panthers.

''I was a guy that was not as fast or may not have been as tall or strong or whatever it may be,'' Coleman said. ''If you believe it in your heart, you can achieve it.''
