If West Virginia wins, the Big 12 will also have four. 1/2 the sweet 16 comes from two conferences.

What? How can Duke by a great team if they lost to UVA and UNC a total of 3 times during the regular season?

The teams that win in the tournament are balanced. Teams that rely on amazing offense are bound to have a half where they go cold. Teams that rely on amazing defense are bound to face a team having a hot streak.

It's the tourney. Adrenaline is high. You need to be elite on both sides to win a title in a year where there are good teams. Every national champ since 2001 besides 2014 UConn was in the top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Duke fits the profile. So does Gonzaga. Villanova does, but just barely. Virginia didn't. Cincy really didn't.
