Someone in the B1G is impressed with the number of Tri-State TV's that tune into RU ball.

i think it is more about getting the big10 network to the vast alumni of the original 10 in the tristate than anything to do with rutgers....

I've read that before and what I don't understand is how Rutgers adds to that. Just because they are outside NYC ... I still don't get it.

If the B1G wants NYC viewers then they put their network on cable there. How is having RU tied to the cable package an advantage? IMO it's more a distraction. Or another way to say it...

If a person's choice is to watch RU vs anyoneb1g or Michigan State versus Michigan? tOSU vs Nebraska.

I'm not getting what RU brings to the table except a 60 point loss in all sports. Well....30 point loss when playing B1G teams. Even moms with kids on the RU team are going to watch MSU versus Michigan.

Rutgers football is OK. Probably will be in the top half of that conference. I think that was the logic at least.

because without rutgers the cable stations have no reason to even budge to put big10 network in their spectrum. and the big10 certainly doesnt want to have to get less for their product to get it placed either.

rutgers shot 22%, twice as many turnovers as fgs, UL 151-61 last two games. ul bench scored enough to beat rutgers....

Well, according to one Syracuse/Michigan/Colorado/Penn State/Northwestern fan, Rutgers was brought on so that people who are stupid enough to believe that playing against Rutgers in football makes the rest of the B1G schools (not athletic programs mind you, the actual schools) look superior in an academic sense, will be so utterly convinced of that, that they will immediately apply/enroll to said institutions, and somehow those very same stupid/gullible idiots will improve the academic standing of the school. (or so goes the theory anyway... personally, I don't buy it)

This, its about selling subscriptions in the NYC area to cable companies. Obviously Rutgers is no draw, but having them present and on Big10 network is a decent negotiating position for the BIG, before they had no negotiating position.

Wait now....it can't be both ways. Profits are all the negotiating postion required. I see it as the only position.

Either the new viewership is already there or it isn't. If the interested TV's are there, that viewership is the negotiating position.

And that's what has me swinging.

Well, there are viewers, although that number might be vanishingly small. The goal is to find a place where the willing viewers are serviced with programming of the Big10 network at a price the cable providers are willing to pay.

Point being that without Rutgers there is 0 chance Big10 network gets those households, with Rutgers Big10 network has a decent chance of getting some.
