I wouldn't get too excited. They are simply stating they want to see playoff expansion to
guarantee an ACC team is in the hunt. No one is going anywhere, their new deal makes
it too expensive.

Expansion of the playoff or expansion of the conference will both serve the B12 well. However, just knowing that they are worried about the ACC says columes.

Somebody will eventually find a way to get around the GOR contracts that conferences now have. Watch the ACC get screwed out of the playoffs for a year or two and see. FSU may just be that team to start the avalanche.

Why is that? Maryland bolted.

Maryland bolted before the GOR contract was put into place.

They did - but without looking it up, pretty sure they paid a couple of million vs. now it is like $20M.
I am sure it is out there with a search, just don't have the bandwidth right now.
But, short of a conference having the ability to mitigate the fees, no ACC team
is going to jump unless the ship is sinking.

I thought the GOR
Are you sure about that, I thought they had to pay something.

I'm not sure if Maryland's suit dealt with the GOR... I think it was an exit fee similar to what WVU and the BE went through back in 2011. Maryland sued over the increase in the exit fee... which was voted on by ACC members prior to the conference approving a GOR.

ACC, Maryland reach settlement on exit fee: $31.4M, not $52.2M

Nobody has tried the GOR's yet. There is a general consensus that they are unbreakable but they are also rooted in the music industry by record companies and artists. I have no idea if there is any record of GOR being busted in that area as far as using an example.

I know one thing, the board of trustees at FSU must not be the sharpest knives in the drawer, they had a chance to make boatloads more money in the Big12 just through our tier 3 setup alone not to mention a great deal more street cred from being in the Big12. I don't want to hear them whine about it now.

I knew Maryland exited with the $50 M exit fee and lost their court battle. I didn't know what the final figure was. Thanks GR.

Maryland ended up settling for 32M with the ACC.

The GOR contracts are a new issue and nobody has attempted to challenge them in the courts yet. At some point, someone will try. So far conferences have been unable to force any team to stay in a conference. If FSU wanted to leave, they could. There would be a lawsuit followed by a settlement just like every other conference jump.
