Let Red Shirt Freshman play the Bowl Games?

Due to several potential high draft players sitting out Bowl Games last year, I had heard a suggestion for the NCAA to allow red shirt freshman to play in the bowl games. I think this would add a whole new excitement to these bowl games, especially the games where the best players are sitting for draft purposes.

I also heard another suggestion that would allow red shirt freshman to play in as many as 3 games before they burn their red shirt eligibility.

Both ideas intrigued me, and I don't really see a downside to either. What do you think?

All it takes is one of them getting injured and getting another free year.

How would they get another free year if they get injured in a bowl game?

Even if they get injured during the regular season, there are still rules for a medical red shirt.
