:agree:

Hill has earned his money. I love his energy and how he continues to develop. Obviously, he's never going to be an elite big, but he can be a damn nice role player. One of those types that every team needs to win a title.

They still have the option of trading him during the offseason if they pick up his option, which I would think would be pursued. While he's a solid role player, that $9M might be needed to sign a starter addition.

Good point.

I don't know if Hill would be better to keep or making a case to re-sign Davis after he tries the market. Perhaps the Lakers think that Davis is done with them but I am not so sure. If he gets the money he wants, DAvis will be gone so in that scenario Hill is the better option.

I prefer Davis as well, especially defensively. He mentioned earlier in the season that he would like to stay, but it all depends on what price the market puts on him.

If it weren't for that $9M price tag, I would be all for keeping Hill. Depends on who the Lakers are targeting in free agency I guess, as that $9M range won't mean much the following summer when the cap jumps.

I think the bold is the key. If the Lakers go after and get a Gasol, Monroe, or someone like that, then Hill becomes expendable at that price. However, if they get a big in the draft and go after a pg in FA, then it would be best to keep him and the $9 million isn't so bad. Especially for 1 season and with the cap expected to see a significant increase after next season.

Anyone know when they have to decide on Hill's option?

There is no point in picking up Hill's option unless you plan on not making any real upgrades. What he is now is as good as he'll ever be. The 9 mil into the pool of cap space is better spent elsewhere. But if you aren't looking to do anything with it, at least he'll fill a roster spot on a number that's movable.

Even after picking up his option the Lakers are $20,000,000 under the cap. You can get some good players with that. The next season they will be under the cap by another $34,000,000.

That $20M isn't much if they're chasing big names. It will get you one big acquisition and more retreads.

That's fine as far as the re-build. The plan has always been to add a big acquisition this year and then another one or 2 in the following FA period when the cap increases.

These are the players that will most likely be on the team next season:

Kobe, 25 million.

Hill, 9 million (but they could always decline it, as of now they say are going to keep him)

Young, 5.2 million

Randle, 3.1 million

Kelly, 1.7 million

Clarkson, $845,059

Brown, $845,059

Sacre team option for just under 1 million

Davis has a player option at 1.1 million and is as good as gone, according to his agent.

That's 8 players and we have as many as 4 draft picks. We aren't going crazy in free agency this summer. We'll add maybe 2 players and in the summer of 2016 we'll continue to add players once Kobe is retired.

IF Kobe retires, of course. At the very least, he should be much cheaper. The problem with waiting until 2016 is that EVERYONE will have major cap space, so there will be a lot of competition for the big ticket guys. The Lakers need to get one this season (maybe Monroe?).

Depends on where they land in the draft. If Okafor or Towns are available, they'll grab one of them and go after maybe Rondo/Dragic in FA. If Okafor/Towns are not available, then I'd expect they go after someone like Mudiay and then focus on Monroe/Gasol/Jordan in FA.

Personally, I hope they don't go after Rondo unless they get him cheaply.
