As unfortunate as this is, Kyle just did not have the natural athleticism he needed to compete at the NFL level. The smarts and natural instincts yes. Ah well, not everyone is cut out for it.

Yeah I think we sorta gave him that shot and his week of fame on the PS. Hard worker, intelligent, but he doesn't have the upside a Cliett has.

Sounds like a few teams were trying to get Cliett on their practice squad. He ended up choosing the Broncos over the Raiders and another team that wasn't named.

If he works out that way we might have every LB on Practice Squads in the NFL calling us to try and get on this team!

Greg Kragen was a favorite player of mine because he didn't have any talent either but was a key player for the Broncos in many a playoff run. His son had his same temperament in that regard. This may not be the last of Kragen. Wish him well. I'd like to get him and his dad on the same autograph.

That was a different NFL though where a smash mouth, instinctive football player without athleticism could thrive. In today's NFL though, you can find guys that are the same and have the athleticism to not be trailing a TE by 10 yards in coverage and that is what is coveted. If things were still about running between the tackles and priority number 1 was stopping the run, he would probably have a long career. Unfortunately due to owner greed and the desire to have a more exciting product, smash mouth football has been taken away from the fans who do enjoy it.

Well the Broncos are working hard to bring it back a bit. I loved how we punched the Panthers in the mouth that first game. You could tell in the 4th quarter that Thomas Davis wanted nothing to do with our FB coming up the hole and hitting him. From what I understand our FB broke 2 different facemasks I'm guessing of opposing team's players. So smash mouth while not as prevalent as it was still lives on a bit and honestly will be a great system when teams have designed their defenses to be smaller and faster to stop the pass.

They are working hard to bring it back, but on the offense side of the ball. The defense is more geared to stop the pass just like every other D however, the trick is finding players that do well doing both. The unfortunate thing is that Kragen would be a huge liability in pass defense and players who are just one trick ponies are unfortunately expendable in today's NFL. You absolutely have to be able to do more.

Oh I agree. And honestly as a LB I would say you almost have to lean on them being a better pass specialist than run stopper. When teams are throwing something like 65% of the time (few teams have that kind of split) and they run the hurry up where you cannot sub then a lot teams really do put out guys who are better against the pass than the run. So like I said gives the Broncos a nice advantage when all of a sudden we come in and play some smash mouth football with a defense that doesn't allow the game to get too out of hand to take that part of our game away.

Honestly as exciting as our defense is to watch I"m excited to watch our offense develop this season and see what they are by the end of the year.

There are two ways of being fast to the ball - one is with the legs and the other is with the mind.

You got it Mingo.

Something said about guys who always have themselves in the right position.

Something Iowa players have strived in the Iowa system for since the Ferentz era.

He doesn't often develop the 4 star guys, but rather the walk ons, 2 star guys who are intelligent, work hard and put the time and effort into preparation.
