Which was the topic of the radio yahoos this morning. Brought up painful memories that we haven't produced a star position player since Arod and Jr.

Lots of pressure being heeped on Bryant to be the savior.... that pressure didn't help ackley, smoak, saunders, montero....... we'll see what happens with bryant.

I would consider Kyle Seager a star position player.

Also Adam Jones and Shin Soo Choo

i like it when players take accountability for failing to meet expectations.

it saves the trouble of fans having to make idiotic excuses for them.

Come on now, those two were shit when they rode the bench for the Mariners.

And we thank Boston everyday for their ugly chicks making ours look like Hollywood Bombshells.

Yep.

Players can meet or even exceed expectations with the Mariners. Seager did it. The others in the original post never did, and are being held accountable for it by making a fraction of what Seager does. That's the way it should work.

And we thank you for Moyer.

July 30, 1996: The Mariners acquired left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer from the Red Sox for outfielder Darren Bragg.
When they acquired him, Moyer was a 33-year-old journeyman with a 66-77 career record for six different clubs. He went on to pitch 11 seasons in Seattle, while compiling a 145-87 record with a 3.97 ERA.

Bragg spent three seasons in Boston and went on to have a solid career, playing with seven more clubs before retiring in 2004. But Moyer became the Mariners' all-time career wins leader and posted a pair of 20-win seasons during a decade of excellence, while becoming one of baseball's most-intriguing pitchers with his array of effective off-speed offerings.

Yeah, I was going to bring up the Moyer trade, but it just didn't seem worth it.

We have our fair share of dog trades. Not just Lowe and Tek, dont forget about jose cruz jr for paul spoljeric

Jones and tillman for bedard....

Did we get anything for choo?

What was the name of the lefty bum starter the braves pawned off on bavasi for Raf Soriano?

hell ibanez didn't get good until he left for kc...

YEah your right on about Seags. Though he wasn't ever really thought of much in the minors. The guys I listed originally were all top 10 mlb prospects at one point or another.

Was at the game (since moving to Chicago I'm also a Cubs fan, different leagues and close to where I live).

The strikeouts are expected. Only one of his at bats looked bad (where he struck out on a check swing). He was going against Shields who has a TON of off speed stuff. Bryant will get hits and homers, he's too talented not to get them.

What impressed me with Bryant was defense. He made several great plays and absolutely ZERO mistakes. Even a ball hit right down the line and bounced off the bag, he bare handed, and didn't make the throw to first when the guy was clearly going to be safe. It's a smart non-throw that most fans over-look.

He'll be fine. Course we all thought the same thing about Ackley but the Ms are the MLBs equivalent of the Cleveland Browns, so..
