Just another article on Wentz.. a good read as people are getting to know him.... YOu can't help but get more and more excited the more you read about this kid. He sounds like he is going to be something very special.

Carson Wentz: In Pursuit Of Perfection

nice read.

If this kid wins this city a SB... wow.

I don't know how well this kid is going to be as a QB, but he's got every other box checked. Too bad I'm going to have root against him. :)

This shouldn't be news to anyone that researched about him before he was drafted. He checks off all the boxes. No one is a lock, but when you have an opportunity to draft a rare prospect like this - you take it, and I'm glad we did.

Barring injury I'd be very surprised to see him not succeed. He's not as battle tested as some other QB's coming out, but once you hit the NFL all those lofty college stats in college style offenses go out the window. What matters for a QB prospect is brains, motivation and tools (Wentz checks every box there). While he didn't face the top college Defenses, he was in a pro style system which allowed him to learn the fundamentals of a pro Offense. Once he adjusts to the pro speed of the game (which will likely take a year) ... I fully expect him to become one of the top QB's in the game; probably by year 3.

I've grown to like the guy, but his flaws are worrisome.

Hopefully all of the ex-Qb's on the roster can shape him up.

Best QB prospect since Luck/RG3 IMO. I think he turns out more like Luck :thumb:

Mechanically speaking he reminds me of a young Peyton Manning ...

First one in/last one out impresses me more than anything.

That's what ultimately makes or breaks pro QB's along with smarts/football IQ. Having size along with a big, accurate arm are obviously very important as well ... but when you look at most 1st round flops, the reason they didn't make is mostly due to what's between the ears or lack of motivation to live in the film room. Wentz reminds me a lot of Peyton Manning with regards to dedication and drive to get better (as well as size and mechanics). Manning was obviously a lot further ahead of the curve when he came out, but as long as stays the course he should eventually become that Franchise QB we want.

What are the flaws you're referring to that are worrisome?

Most of the reports on him states that he locks on to guys, late on intermediate throws, inexperienced, struggles with his route progressions. ...etc.

Clearly, no college QB is day 1 ready but the "kool aid" can get thick when it comes to rookies.

I'm hoping the expectations don't eat the small town guy alive.

Not a rhythm passer. The real elite guys in this league are all rhythm passers. Otherwise you are looking at the upside of a Flacco or Tannehill instead of real elite upside.

Wentz isn't a finished product ... only played 1 year of QB in high school and started less than 2 years in college. That's why the Eagles would rather red-shirt him for a year and allow him to adjust to the pro speed. His off field understanding of the position right now is more advanced than his on field reaction time. With reps and pro coaching that will eventually even out. The kid has tremendous football IQ, so imo it's only a matter of time and reps.
