Saw online today Burlesonis scheduled to make 5.25 mil next year but stated he wwould take a pay cut because he loves this team. He is a strong presence in tthe locker room and is well liked. Would you want him back? If so at what price?

Personally I'd like to see him return. He doesn't drop many balls and doesn't make many bone head plays. But 5 mil seems high. But 2 year 5 mil contractseems worth it.

Sure, Bring back Millen too, He might work for a 1$ an hour. I like Nate, but we need to draft a WR in the first two rounds with the other being a DB in the 1st two rounds....Calvin won't be around or healthy forever, time to take the pressure off him....

If Xanders says this WR is our guy then draft him, CJ needs help.

Keeping nate doesn't mean we don't bring in anyone else. Good chance we are going with more than 2 wrs nnext year.

He will back, I have no doubt about that.

It's really a matter of simple math and salary cap rules. He has a little more than $2m in dead money on his contract. He played for $2m salary this season. The Lions will offer another $2m salary. He certainly doesn't deserve more, nor do I think he will ask for more than that.

The Lions gain absolutely nothing by cutting him. That dead money immediately would vest and count $2m against the cap. Keeping him at another $2m salary costs the Lions effectively zero.

The only possible cap savings would be cutting him after June 1 where the dead money hit can be split over two years. That saves the Lions $1m in 2014. I don't love Burleson but he is definitely worth more than $1m. He is actually one of the easiest keep/cut player decisions on the roster.

My bad, I read his contract wrong. At a $2m salary he would carry a $4m cap hit. That's the same he cost this year. That really clouds what to do with him.

At that number I would pursue the after June 1 cut. That would save a little more than $3m. Really tough call on him. Not worth $4m for damn sure.

First guy cut. Never want to see him speak or watch him play again. Wish he was never a Lion.

That's his salary ( I actually think its $5.5m) but the $2m in dead money makes his cap hit $7.5m. Unfortunately that's the result of all the restructures the Lions like to do. Perfect example of why you have heard me say over and over again that there are consequences to doing that.

The minimum he costs the Lions is $3m if he signs a vet min contract.

If our WR group is not upgraded this offseason then bring Nate back for maybe up to 2.5 per but hopefully we can get better there.

He played well early in the season then he got hurt came back and has done nothing. I think he's worth bringing back to compete for a spot on the team and not a lock to make the team. He's done a lot more talking than producing.

More like knows he won't catch a spot on another team and the Lions are his only option.

No. The vet min is roughly $1m for his years in the league. But he has $2m in dead money added to that. So to bring him back at all, even at a min offer his cap hit is $3m.

He "Would" play for less? More like he "Will" play for less if we decide to bring him back at all.

Can we pay him with Pizza Hut coupons?

If he restructures to a 2 year 5 mil deal wouldn't that negate all that?

No the dead money is from bonuses he's already received
