Mack Brown would be very successful at Kansas.

He is still a gifted recruiter and alumni fundraising miracle worker.
As long as he got some assistants to run the Xs and Os, they could be a good program.

He never once lost his ability to bring in players.
He just lost his desire to get involved in the day to day Xs and Os.....as he got older.

If he hires some young new assistants to game coach....while Mack brings in the talent and money....it would work.

Mack Brown would be an idiot to go to a program like Kansas. He's got everything under the sun a reasonable man at his age could possibly want: (a) fame (b) fortune (c) security and (d) a career that included the satisfaction of bringing a major university's football program back from the dead to a National Championship. Lawrence, KS is a nowhere place with a noway football program. Don't even take the call Mack if the phone rings.

Kansas got any qualified assistants to take charge? I'm right next door to Kansas and have no idea.

Rumor has it that they sent a tornado to take him out of Kansas.

But the tornado couldn't pick him up.

Pretty much this,
goldbug may be right, he may not want anything like KU but if I am KU I make him say "no thanks".

I really find it hard to believe that some of you actually think that Mack Brown would consider it? I don't think he would ever. He won one national championship at Texas, he will not repeat that at Kansas, too much of a mountain to climb.

I think KU can only pay the next coach like a $100K a year since they're paying Gill and Weiss like $10M a year......

Typical Texan exaggeration.

Gill was making $2.1 million a year.
Frontbutt was making $2.5 million a year.

That's $4.6 million a year total.

They are done paying Gill after this season, so they'll owe Frontbutt $2.5 million for another 3-4 years.

A far cry from $10 million a year.

It was the lack of KU offense that got Frontbutt fired. He was supposed to be an offensive genius but KU couldn't get TD's.

It is hard to go forward when you're always looking like you're facing away.

I don't think anyone is thinking NC at KU but I think regular bowl eligibility is very likely under Brown at KU. I think U would be good with that at this point. KU would have to pretty much hand Mack the reigns and let him go to get him but... Some places do that when they have to.

I think Mack Brown would be tempted to take the job to prove that he's still got it. It has to rankle him something awful to listen to people talking about how his program had turned into a country club, was totally soft, had no discipline, etc. The man was always about a good public image. Of course nobody would expect him to get a national title there, but if he could regularly get them to bowl games, it would be a big deal.

As for Weis, he will land somewhere again though maybe not next season. It's mind boggling. It is abundantly clear that he is NOT HC material at this point, but some program out there will be duped into taking him.

Mack Brown will coach again, if he's offered. Everybody that speaks with him says he still wants to bad. I thought SMU was the perfect job for him, he can round up all those rich alumni, recruit the state of Texas, and have low expectations.
