I can see Kopitar leaving some money on the table but not a heck of a lot. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become the first $9 million/season player in LA history.
It is a scary amount. Not just because of Kopitar but any player now has a bar set very high. I think that it is not the money but that the money means respect. Giving someone less than someone else means you don't respect them as much. I mean if you asked these guys how much more cash they needed they don't know, but If you ask should they get more than some other guy the answer is always( in their agents minds) yes
The thing is; the team pays the same amount, it is just matter of how it is distributed.
To me the interesting aspects of the Hawks signings are two-fold:
(1) If it came to value, Toews is worth more than Kane but I understand why they both got the same amount
(2) The $4.2m increased cap hit per player per year leaves the Hawks only $3.2 shy of the cap for '15-'16 with a roster size of only 15 players!
This means they will be shedding salary after this year like crazy, and that they will be going all guns this year.
Of course, they still have to shave 2.2m to get under the cap for this year, and that's with the bargain Richards signing.
Anyone know the deadline for teams getting under the cap this year?
