No real specific reason so far. That's just what I've had in mind. I've shot the 9mm a few times and that's also a possibility, but the .40 seems a little more versatile as far as stopping power is concerned.

I'm a fan of the Hornady Critical Defense rounds in 9mm. If they don't stop whatever you shoot, you're fucked anyway.

I am a big fan of the 9mm especially with with Hornady Critical Defense rounds. I have them in my Glock 19.

Never bought into the "stopping power" argument very much. 9mm is a great round.

Then there's me who has the critical defense in .45acp

I believe EVERYONE should own a gun, just not that everyone should have the ammunition that goes along with said gun. That way at least everyone would own something they could throw and hurt someone with.

BTW...nice revolver and jump right in the frying pan and shoot that .357, despite the recoil effects you'll feel the next day or two.

I just don't understand this way of thinking. Do you not think having a gun is a responsibility?

What does the "USA government" have to do with your every day life? Nothing.

Such a well thought out response

I'm saying if some country invades us, good luck we all own guns and aren't afraid to use them.

I guess I just don't see this as a realistic possibility anytime soon.

Hornady's Critical Defense and Critical Duty ammo is the only stuff I keep loaded in my handguns (9mm, .40 and soon to be .45 again) anymore. The stuff is outstanding. Get on-line and look at some of their field testing videos.

It's crazy how much damage those things can do. It's the only I round I keep in my CCW's too.

One of the only 9mm rounds I've seen that consistently penetrates windshield glass.

Yup, I was rather taken back by the penetrating power they have at 115 gr.

Nothing against the .40 S&W but to me it doesn't make much sense. Most .40's are built with the 9mm frame and they have a lot more recoil. I'll take my 9mm and my .45 ACP they are built on correct frame sizes and IMO more enjoyable to shoot.

It's like buying a Beretta 687SP 20 GA/28 GA built on a 20 GA frame size. Then Beretta adds a set of 26" 28 GA barrels it makes no fucking sense. It places the gun out of balance when30" barrels should be the norm with the combos. It will bring the gun to balance and allow for a more natural swing.

So I've been looking for a specific gun for over a year with no luck at all. Just getting something for fun at the range and out in the mountains with friends. Since Ruger released this model it's been near impossible to find and has excellent reviews. I found a person in FL selling one new in box in gunbroker and offered a good price and they agreed. Very excited to shoot it when it comes in:

Ruger SP101 .357 with a 4.2" barrel. Gorgeous gun

Nice choice. A person can't go wrong with a Ruger or the .357 caliber.

I'm surrounded by a 1911 crowd and they give crap all the time about my 9mm not being able to knock down some 1/4" steel plates at our range. My rebuttal is always that the human body is not covered in 1/4" steel. The 9mm is a very good round. Most guns in the 9mm caliber are usually high capacity capable and have easy follow up shoots.

Podunkparte if you want a 40 or 45 then get it but don't underestimate the 9mm.

Yeah, I'm really only looking at going out and having fun shooting. That plus the availability and price of the 9mm round is worth considering.
