Good lord. Did you have to mention TrueNiners? Was he the one that was convinced that Barry Bonds did not do steroids?

Yup. His top 10 pitcher lists consisted of guys who were pitching for the Giants/A's or guys that did at one point. He was calling guys like Barry Zito and Rich Harden top 10 pitchers in 2010/11.

Roger Clemens had himself a fine 1996 season, despite what Duquette was saying about him. His ERA (3.63) and WHIP (1.33) don't look that great, but his ERA was actually 7th best in the AL (his ERA+ was 5th). His WHIP was also 7th in the AL that year. The Red Sox defense was also pretty terrible. They were tied for last place in the majors with the Tigers at -77 Total Zone Runs. A's were 28th at -53.

Clemens only gave up 0.3 HR/9 and finished 2nd in the AL in WAR (7.7), behind only Pat Hentegen.

And who could have forgotten/never heard of Pat Hentegen

Most Sox fans were very pissed at Duquette and his "Twilight" comments... I hated the guy and still do...

Hentgen was a great pitcher and led the Blue Jays to their titles. I doubt anyone older than 20 has forgotten him....

He only pitched two postseason games for the Jays. One in the '93 ALCS (where he gave up 6 ER in 3 innings) and one in the '93 WS (where he only gave up 1 run in 6 innings). His third postseason start came with the Cardinals in 2000, a couple years after Hentgen's peak (93-97).

And even if he had made that start with the Jays, ~12 innings is a pretty meaningless sample size.

I just double checked his stats... I guess my memory hasd a better impression of him... He did go 19-9 with a 112 ERA+ in 93. That's not bad...

I was just replying to the post that implied no one remembered him. He had a pretty good career.

The Yanks for going to grab either Lester or Schezer, and it would not shock me if they grabbed both.

A man can only dream about the Braves signing Lester.

Kind of weird to me. He was born and raised in Washington state, has played for Boston and Oakland yet has adopted Atlanta as his new hometown.

I dunno, the Yankees are pretty fucked when A-Rod and his contract come back on the books. George may have thrown money away. I think Hank may be a bit stingier and won't be willing to pay luxury tax money.

They've been saying that for two years. "We've got to get under the luxury tax." I think they realize they are screwed unitl Arod, Tex, & CC some off the books.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Arod. Will they slot him at short, with Jeter & Drew becoming FA?

Isuspect they will let Kuroda retire and will focus on (see: pay) one of the FA SP....

Lester is definitely having a great season but I wonder if that value is offset somewhat by Scherzer's great season.
