After hearing about the amount of painful injuries he played with this year, can he even last 5 more years? His body is taking a BEATING, which will likely catch up to him sooner rather than later...

Makes sense to me. If these guys are smart, they'd make 10M a year and live like their making $500.000 get enough to enjoy life and start a new career.

If I was Watt I'd retire as soon as that $100M or whatever it was is locked up.

$100M at even 3% (inc. taxes) is like $2M a year. Or better yet just buy a bunch of real estate in major cities and profit... Telling me you can't live comfortably off that? And Watt would only be 32.

All Watt needs is a cabin in the woods and an axe to cut fire wood, he's set for life.

Makes sense, he'd be 31 going on 32. That's basically most likely going to be where his productivity starts to drop (think Jared Allen or DeMarcus Ware before last season). Might as well if you can get paid plenty to retire happily not play into your declining years.

The game is changing. What's the point of making all that money if you can't remember your kids name? They really need to expand the roster and get serious about detecting concussions and red-flagging players that have issues. I love football as much as the next guy but I don't want to see guys destroy their lives for my amusement. I used to be a huge boxing fan but after seeing the guys I pulled for tripping over their own tongues by the end of their careers I just stopped watching.

He really needs to join the Packers before he retires. It's his home state team. I'm getting a semi just picturing that green and gold jersey with his name on the back. What a glorious sight that would be.

This is a lot to do about nothing. Love JJ but he always needs to be in the lime light. His celebrations are border line going overboard. Imagine if he was a prima donna WR?

It's a Slow off season, he's recovering from surgery so post a vid of how well he's doing. Now this. Most players say the same thing. I'll retire when my skills start to fade. Thanks JJ. Nothing to see here move along.

I agree with the other posters he's definitely abused his body. Hopefully, he and others don't end up with TBI?

He turned 27 in March so 5 years would make sense. He'd be 32 and would have some time to enjoy life while still relatively young.

Hell I think he could live off the money he gets from Verizon (or whatever cell company he's been on ads for)

Not surprising...it's really a 2 contract league for the better players anyway and he would be closing out his 2nd deal...plenty of cash, don't blame him a bit...he will make plenty of cash off the field after he's done play if he wants to stay in front of the camera.

No kidding. I could live extremely comfortably if I even had 2 or 3 million. I remember saying that to my old boss and he laughed. He said there's no way you can raise a family and retire off of only $2 million. I said, if I keep working for you I'll have to since I only make about $80k per year. $80k x 20 years = $1.6M. He'd never thought of it that way I guess. lol.
