As the article states, low risk, high reward type move. If he sucks, who cares? Team desperately needs speed and he has it. We also have no idea what other moves are in store for the offseason so it's impossible to judge at this point.

Rumour has it that the Bolts & Cally may not get a deal negotiated, however, if they don't I'd like to see Ryan Cally go to the Wings. I truly think his gritty play style fits there better than it would on the Devils. The Bolts are tanked with young talented players at forward.

Well young, fast, skilled is definitely the direction this team needs to go towards.
The Ikka Pikkar......(spelling?) wasn't called fast or skilled at any point of his career.

I also never heard of this kid, but rather go this direction than a player north of 35.
So to me, this is probably the right track.

i agree pikarenan wasn't billed as anything but bringing in a khl player when our euro scouting department hasn't been exactly stellar isn't working well with me

I would hope the Devils don't sign him to a 3 year deal with an NTC thrown in.
I do think this is the right direction however. Picking 30th, they really need to try and find possibilities to get younger and faster. Whether its trades, or this route, that's fine with me.

Well said. I fall under this and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work but they tried. THAT I can live with. No more Ruutu/Clowe/Zubs/Poni clones...

Is it funny that as soon as I read this article, I knew that you would have already made this exact post and mentioned the same exact player.. haha.

On a different note. Doesn't really matter. This is at best a depth signing that might push for some bottom line minutes. We added another young player to the system (22 yr/o). It will be for extremely low money, so it's not a huge problem if it doesn't work out. If 1 in 10 of these minor moves works, then that's great IMO. didn't even have to use a draft pick to get him. Johnny Oduya is the perfect example of when something like this goes right, and Pikachu is what it looks like when it doesn't. Moving along.
