The retirement age in the NFL is getting lower and lower with the long term inplecations to health. Sad to see.

Doesn't really bother me, its nice to see new faces. Brings parity to the game.

Considering he hasn't played a full season in forever..... 2012?

Once he started with the injuries he never recovered.

And the younger guys are better anyway.

He was awesome the first 5 years, leading the team with tackles, but like you said once the injury bug hit, he never got back to even 75%. Last few years he was Hightower's mentor and was classy playing second fiddle. Kudos to Mayo and will remember him fondly

Had his moments and stayed classy I agree.

But he knows when to say when and obviously wants to finish up a Patriot.

I can see him in some linebacker coach capacity for NE in near future. Kind of like Pepper Johnson's role

Gotta agree with Sonny and Hank. Mayo was really darn good until the injury bug hit. He hasn't been able to stay healthy for a few years now and he was barely cracking the line up unless someone else was dinged up.

I doubt the rest of the AFC will even notice he's gone.

Hopefully he can land a job coaching LB's in the Pats organization.

One of those guys that did his job well and didn't need to go out and make a brand by being a loud mouth about how good he was. Respect the heck out of the guy for his play on the field. Good luck in retirement. I agree with an above post that I could definitely see him back in some kind of coaching capacity. Seems like a very smart player and a guy that the young guys looked up to.

He played at a very high level and was fun to watch in his prime.
The injuries piled up and took their toll as nobody heals faster when they age.
Thanks Jerod.
Also frees up some cap money too
