30-10 in 3 seasons at WKU. My only question is how much was him and how much did Taggart and Petrino set him up for winning?

Fleck would be a great fit in Oregon. I would be a little surprised but if he wound up there but I could imagine Ducks fans would be happy with it.

And this was a great get for Purdue. Excellent job landing a hot commodity.

Thought he took the Duke job this morning?

Who do you want? I'm objectively interested.
I prefer someone a little more established and has had more success than what Fleck has had. over 4 years he has built up Western Michigan but Hoke did it at Ball State and Hazell did well at Kent State but bombed at purdue. I just don't like the risk.

I concur. It seems like you're moving from one roll of the dice to another without anyone observing the odds of winning are still the same.

Surprised they're not going for another OSU assistant. Because, ya know, they've worked out so well.

I feel like Taggart is just above Fleck but still doesn't have quite the resume I would prefer.
Harsin has come up from Boise. But I feel like Oregon just fired a coach people are saying only won because of Kelly's players. so I don't see why they over look Petersen's players at Boise for Harsin.
Matt Rhule maybe. back to back 10 win seasons. but still a short head coaching career.

The Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin is one I would be ok with. 94-34 over 10 years as a head coach. 5 conference titles. a NC all at FCS but still

These hot named head coaches who are up and coming coaches are interesting when they make a jump like this. I sometimes think of what I would do if I was in their position...Heres the thing..

You're a hot named coach, you're up and coming and have turned around a bad CFB program. A Fleck or this Brohm guy. You are established at this school, you have job security, you're making OK money not top dollar, but good money to coach.

And a program like Purdue, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, etc. These perennial low tier struggling football programs give you an offer and these guys take it.

I get it, you want to get into a big time program, but now you have put yourself at a program where it is traditionally difficult to win, giving you an uphill climb amongst the big boy programs and putting your young career in jeopardy of any growth.

They go to these schools and go 2-10, 3-9, 4-8 type seasons and they are fired in a few years. Their head coaching career goes up in smoke.

I think if I were these young coaches, I would hold off until a real good job came along. I would maybe not strike as the iron was hot and continue to stay at a comfortable job and get a little older and then see if a bigger program would hire me a few years down the road where I would have a better chance of succeeding.

Brohm didn't turn it around that was Taggart
WKU transitioned and went 2-10 0-12 in that period. 0-12 was first year in Sun Belt.
Under Taggart they went 2-10 then 7-5 and 7-5 (7-6 for the year but he left before the bowl).
Petrino came in for a year and went 8-4 largely with Taggart's players.
Brohm then went 8-5, 12-2, 10-3. that leaves it at Taggart's players from his last class he was building.
