West Virginia announced Monday morning that freshman James "Beetle" Bolden has torn his ACL and sprained his MCL in his right knee.

The injuries will likely prevent Bolden from playing for West Virginia until the 2016-17 season. Bolden was a three-star recruit, a point guard who was ranked as one of the 50 best at the position in his class by 247 Sports.

The 6-foot point guard put up 10.7 points per game over the summer, when West Virginia traveled to the Bahamas for its summer trip and exhibition tour.

"Obviously, our thoughts are with Beetle as he prepares for surgery and begins the rehabilitation process," WVU coach Bob Huggins said. "Beetle's a great kid, and I know he will put the time in with Doc (team trainer Randy Meador) and come back stronger and hungrier than ever."

West Virginia went 25-10 last season, falling in the Sweet 16 to No. 1 Kentucky. Huggins' Mountaineers begin their season on Friday, Nov. 13, at home against Northern Kentucky
