I'm guessing no. They haven't been relevant in this century. In their conference, Wisconsin and Iowa have more relevance. Looking at their old conference, 20 years ago they kicked the shit out of Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Oklahoma State. All of these teams have more recent BCS/NYD bowl appearances than Nebraska.

And they aren't coming back. Their coach is good for an 8-4 type season but that gets you fired there. If you don't believe that, ask every coach since Osborne how it goes in Lincoln. They fucked up their recruiting by telling Texas to piss off and now are no longer relevant enough to attract top level talent nationally. Everyone is on tv now so that advantage they had 30 years ago is done. They are in danger of losing their sellout steak (I think they get it done this year but if Riley lays another 5-7 turd watch out) so it's possible their fan base is starting to lose interest.

Hey, at least they got baseball though. And corn. Lots and lots of corn.

Well we have passed them as a program.

Edit-to be fair that isn't saying much. I'm guessing there are 20 or so programs that can say the same.

Lol @ Oklahoma State fan talking shit. You are clueless, Nebraska could have great recruiting class this and has potential get multiple 5 stars and lot of other high rated recruits. I bet we end up with better recruiting class than Okie Jr does just like last year (with only couple months woth new coaching staff)

Lol. Okie Jr better than Nebraska ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Okie Jr is shit. One conference title in 40 years is pretty impressive for you. Your impressive 5-37-1 record against Nebraska. Just because you've had a few good record lately and Nebraska has had some of worst years in 40 years. Nebraska >>>>>>> Okie Jr

Even still they probably are better off than a perennial .500 former blue blood.
When the OP posted this in the other thread, I didn't think he was talking about Nebraska. I just realized he doesn't know the definition of the word "perennial"

This isn't a my school versus your school thing.

You guys are in the lucky to be bowling section of college football now (really lucky considering last season) and I don't see that changing.

Good luck being above .500 in the future.

Really?

You said you have passed us as a program. Nationally.

In this millennium, Nebraska is 137-71 while Oklahoma State is 125-76. Let us keep in mind, this is the worst 16 year run in our history over the past 60 years, while this is arguably the greatest run in Oklahoma State football history. Ever. Including the Thurman Thomas/Barry Sanders/Leslie O'Neal/Mike Gundy/Hart Lee Dykes years that were surrounded by years of failure.

And yes, we did beat you the last time we played you. In your own house in 2010. 51-41 with Arm Punt Martinez throwing for 323 yards and 5 TDs against your swiss cheese defense. And yes, that was an 11-2 Oklahoma State team that is likely one of the Top 5 teams your program has ever fielded all of a year away from your greatest team of all time in 2011.

As for corn jokes?

Stillwater, OK population: 45,688
Lincoln, NE population: 258,379

Stillwater is nothing more than a pimple on the ass of the way out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-skirts between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

Even your big brother calls you the cow college. And you want to make stereotypical corn jokes? You can shoot a cannon down main street in Stillwater right now and not hit anything of note. Yes, you have a street called Main Street in Stillwater.

Now, as to whether we are still a Blue Blood?

Since joining the Big 10 we are 6-2 against the other considered Blue Blood programs in the Big 10 that consist of Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. We also have a 3-2 record against Michigan State and do not have a losing record to any opponent in the Big 10 other than the 1-4 embarrassment that has been our pathetic play against Wisconsin.

This is rich. Just for giggles, let's take a look at what you are positing here and see what holds up.
They haven't been relevant in this century.
Despite having the worst run since the 1950's for our program, this decade we have played in a national championship game and 5 conference championship games. I'll give you that we haven't won one, which is not up to our standard by any means, but we've been far from irrelevant, having 1 division title every 3 years.
In their conference, Wisconsin and Iowa have more relevance.
Wisconsin has been on a historic run for their program over the last few years. They've been better. Nebraska has a better win percentage overall and holds a 3-2 lead over Iowa since joining the Big Ten.
Looking at their old conference, 20 years ago they kicked the shit out of Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Oklahoma State. All of these teams have more recent BCS/NYD bowl appearances than Nebraska.
In the last 20 years, Nebraska has a better win percentage than every team you listed. Each of those teams has historically been able to rise up for a year or two here and there, but have lacked the ability to maintain status as a perennial (see how that word is used?) power.

And they aren't coming back. Their coach is good for an 8-4 type season but that gets you fired there. If you don't believe that, ask every coach since Osborne how it goes in Lincoln.
Riley had a career win percentage at Oregon State of 54%. That does not appear too great, but it needs some context. In all years that Riley was not the coach at OSU, they had a win percentage of 47%. They were 7% better with him as their coach as not. 7% would put Nebraska in the double digit win category. Will he work out? I don't know. Signs point to him being a good coach, though. And neither Solich nor Pelini were fired for just what they did on the field. That's like saying Mangino got fired at Kansas for not winning enough.

They fucked up their recruiting by telling Texas to piss off and now are no longer relevant enough to attract top level talent nationally.
Nebraska is recruiting at an elite level right now. It's only June, but I'd wait until signing day before blabbing about something you clearly don't follow. NU has been a thorn in the side of teams like USC, UCLA, and Ohio State on the recruiting trail lately. This staff is proving that it is possible to recruit nationally at Nebraska.

Everyone is on tv now so that advantage they had 30 years ago is done.
We still have top notch facilities and other support to sell to student athletes. Nebraska has been and is now on the cutting edge of the entire student-athlete experience.

They are in danger of losing their sellout steak (I think they get it done this year but if Riley lays another 5-7 turd watch out) so it's possible their fan base is starting to lose interest.
Oh no! We've got a few season tickets left in June! Whatever will we do? College football attendance has gone down nationwide, yet we've been able to maintain our sellout streak despite that. We would be sold out right this second if we were still in the Big 12...the Big Ten requires something like a thousand less tickets reserved for visiting teams.

Oh, and we aren't in a conference that is threatening to dissolve. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

So far in the voting, there are fans of teams from 4 different conferences saying yes. The nos are three butthurt Big 12 fans and @ChicagoIrish. Pretty sure he thought we were talking basketball though.

It's five now.

If you'd go back to tBig 8, or wherever it was you all came from, maybe there'd be a chance to return to glory. But you aren't going to be able to topple powerhouses like Iowa, Northerstern and Minnesotta in that mighty West Division.

But I'll never forget the time Nebraska made their lone BIG Championship Game and gave up 70. (Most poorly attended BIG Championship ever btw. Nearly 20K less fans at Lucas than any other year. Huskers don't travel well, despite the myth.)

And the number of Big 10 Championship games Michigan has been in are? (Yes, that would be Zero)

And Michigan's record against Nebraska in Big 10 play is? (That would be 1-2 Jim)

I'll never forget that lone championship game Michigan made when their fans bought a lot of tickets and....., wait a minute. Mighty Michigan hasn't made a Big 10 Championship game. Ever.

Why are you bringing up Michigan? Or asking me what their record was? (Id have no idea tbh. Saw more Huskers games last year. All ugly. But I'm pretty certain they had a winning record last year. Most decent programs did.)

This is a thread about Nebraska and the poor state of its program. Let's try to focus and come up with a gameplan to stop the bleeding.

I think it takes a bit longer for "blue blood" status to be revoked. The accomplishments they have outweigh the "mediocrity" in this millennium. And I say "mediocre" for Nebraska standards. When fans make a list of bluebloods in any particular sport it seems like CFB has more than any other. Nebraska feels like one of those teams.
