He might be. I'm no A's fan and never will be, still it's impossible to ignore this guy. I've been around as long as he has and don't remember a GM anywhere near this guy.

He's good, but I'm happy with Theo and Jed running things here in Chicago.

You're conveniently forgetting a lot then.

Tell me who over the yrs has done as much with as little as Beane ? I've seen a million GM's and very few are worthy of even remembering. Usually a GM has one deal he hangs his hat on , Beane has so many he can't even remember them. I personally think Beane is so good in the situation he's in that he couldn't operate in a place like NY or Boston where he had money to spend.

I think Beane's done a much greater job assembling this team than the original "Moneyball" team.

I completely agree but consider who he's up against. He's on the bottom of the barrel and competes every yr. We all know there are teams out there with limitless $$ who cannot compete with Beane. It's about winning and I agree with that. But in Oakland you can't even begin to consider winning it all so you shoot for something , that something is competing. He does it yr in and yr out with very little to work with. There isn't another GM in the game who can hold his water

so do I which is part of my point. The guy is getting better at this while the Brian Cashmans of the world draft bums, sign 40 yr olds to 16 yr contracts and have budgets over $200mil

I hope so because it means the Mets GM is God's mentor, and that ain't bad.

Yep. He inherited a team with Hudson/Mulder/Zito. How much credit can he really get for that team?

Just Hudson he inherited...Zito and Mulder were drafted under Beane as GM.

God?? Absolutely not-- but he knows how to spot talent in the bargain basement like nobody I have ever seen, and thus keep the A's in contention on a shoestring, so I'll hand him that anyway.

He's a good GM for sure but he's far from God. Also he downgraded big time by getting Brett Lawrie in place of Josh Donaldson.
