OK tech guys.

So switched over to DSL, the router works, but for some reason every so often the internet just cuts out on the computers.......it will give you the little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark over the wireless connection icon on windows........will say that that connection is gone......if i hit disconnect and re-connect it goes right back through.......why is this happening

Is it your wifi or is it the internet that is going out?

DSL sucks btw. Years ago it was better than cable as cable companies oversold the bandwidth and it was shared so during prime time it was real slow, but those days are long gone.

Call your ISP. This happens to me and all you really can do is reset the modem or run the diagnostic tool when it happens. Usually that will tell you what the problem is, if it cant figure it out call isp. If you have completely custom settings set up on the router double check. Call isp they can walk you through everything too in case you missed something.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router that the wifi uses? If you are near other people with wifi, that would be my first guess. Both your wifi is on the same channel, so 1 minute it's picking up yours and the next minute it's picking up theirs and drops you because you can't connect etc.

How is the connection strength?

It'll be a router setting, but since they are all different with interfaces I can't help you out much there. You'll just have to poke around until you see it in the wifi settings. By default it's probably set on auto.

sounds like a wireless modem. I'd call verizon and they can walk you through troubleshooting.

If it is happening after the same length of time, you may have a DSL account that has a time out setting. If you are using older cordless phones they can interfere with your wireless network and cause random outages (even if you are not using the phone).

Otherwise it may be either the modem or router. Try connecting a computer directly to the modem and see if it is stable.

So the question is, does this happen after the same length of time every time? Say every half hour, hour, etc? Or is it entirely random?

Do you have filters on every phone outlet in the house? Presuming you do and the problem isn't that simple to fix, then the issue is likely either line related from the ISP or a problem with your modem/router.

Again, does this happen when you have a computer plugged directly into the modem?

From a direct connection try various line test sites such as pingtest.net, Line quality test packet loss and latency | DSLReports, ISP Information, Broadband Line Quality Test - Check your internet connection! Test for packet loss, network latency and jitter with our free and simple tool, etc

Just google dsl line test or broadband line test.

If you do not have problems when hard wired into your system and these tests show you are fairly stable, then the issue is likely your wireless modem/router, or if you do not have a separate router from the provided DSL modem (many have wireless built in) then the wireless part of that is either not setup correctly or possibly defective.
