of Mcneill a WR
he played at what 240lbs last year?

so he needs to drop weight, he has to get faster, he has to get quicker

what did keier meyer from kansas run the 40 in? 4.6?

i guess that can get it done

Bo said he was an "adjuster" whatever that means.. I think this makes room for our better blocking TE's while still keeping Mike in there.

they did it with herian some back in the day

but its hard to be a tweener
either he drops weight to get speed up to play outside, and is not as good of a blocker inside

or he keeps his weight as is to block inside but would be a step slower outside

It's been said, I haven't really noticed, but that Mike was one of the poorer blocking TE's we have.

Swift and Peterson weren't real fast. They were good route runners.

Pretty frustrating for a QB to to be looking for a receiver and they're not where they're supposed to be.

I think Pelini and Wats like his work ethics and feel he'll help push the other receivers into working harder if he's their competition.

Exactly. The best wide receivers never seem to be the fastest guys on the field. It's the guys who know to run routes and adjust to make plays on the ball. I used to play wide receiver and I remember learning real quick that if you just run your route the way it's drawn up, you're never gonna be open. A good wide receiver is one who finds those open pockets down field and manipulates his route a bit to get there.....maybe this is what Pelini meant by Mike being an "adjuster" I don't know.

ok Obviously mcneil is not going to burn anyone with speed, but what he does add is Defenses have to put a hat on him which will allow C.gillyan and Paul time to get open and make plays. Also his down feild block SHOULD make for big run plays at least on paper you would think a 6'4'' 240 pounder could block. Jason witten doesnt have Randy moss speed but he is doing alright.

I think it will be a good move in the long run.

Mcneill's target weight last year was 245lbs. This year, the coaches say he can be 225-240lbs.
According to Niles Paul, Mcneill is “Way faster than what he was.”
The adjuster is a mix of U-tight end, wide receiver, and fullback.
The media day link in another thread has articles that cover all of these topics.

i think mcneill at fb is a waste and not worth the risk
i did hear he has the 15lbs cushion
i would like to see him in the 225-230 area if he is going to be split out, but i think that hurts his nfl chances

i think reed could be used the same way, even dreu young, the kid is a decent te but terrible blocking at point of attack

Nebraska has burners at WR! McNeil at WR is interesting to me a big miss match on 5' 10" CB who will not be able to handle his size and strength. It will allow Nebraska to be more mutiple on offense. 4.6 is plenty fast enough at WR. Just think Paul, Kinnie, McNeil, Cooper out there in quads. Lots of talent out on the edges of the field.

Unlike Holt, Brooks, and a bunch of other failed receivers, McNeil has proven to have great hands. As far as speed, at the college level the size and the ability to catch the ball at it's highest point possible, makes up for his speed. Todd Peterson wasn't exactly fast, but he produced great. Take a look at the majority of the "big receivers" over the years, Dwayne Jarret, Mike Williams, Limas Sweed, Michael Clayton etc...they all ran 4.6 or slower in the 40.

and they all sucked in the NFL
sweed is called the biggest draft bust for the steelers in recent memory, did dwayne jarret sucked in the nfl, he did have 110 yards in 2009
williams isn't even on a team in the nfl

this is really not here or there, but

i will hold off judgement until i see mcneill vs conference teams

it could work great, like meier at kansas, just dont know

They all sucked in the NFL, hence the reason I started by saying "AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL".
