In the past few weeks, Gruden had been giving his votes of confidence to Chris Chester, who most of us thought was a huge stiff at RG taking up $4M of cap-clearable space. This leads me to believe that by taking Scherff, he may be playing OT. If so, and he can legitimately at that position, I've got not problem with taking him at #5.
However, does this give us some clue as to how Gruden and the Redskins view Chester? Maybe Chester's play was affected a whole lot by Polumbus. I'm not sure what to think, but we'll have to wait and see. Maybe Chester gets cuts soon. But that would be foolish since he's the only vet manning that spot. Looks like he'll be the guy at RG this season and Scherff will be a RT. Scherff can't be any worse than Polumbus so, if he plays RT, I'd like to see how much Chester improves this season.
