The reviews from Bears fans on the Foles deal are pretty mixed. Some love it, some hate it, etc.
Look, I don't LOVE Foles but I am rather puzzled. There really was not a single option at QB that didn't have a downside. None were perfect. Brady/Rivers = Old as dirt. Dalton = Has never won anything/folds in big spots/coming off his worst year. Jameis = Never won anything/turnover machine... etc.
Again, it doesn't seem like Carr was ever actually on the block either. So, you can cross that off. We don't have a first round pick. So, you can cross off finding somebody that we're in love with via the draft.
Foles is a professional QB with a track record of success within this style of offense. Who has stepped up in some huge spots and has the ability to make this offense functional. Which, when paired with this defense - could win a lot of games.
All I ever wanted was legitimate competition to take the job away from Mitch. I thought Dalton could offer that. This is a bit better, IMO.
Out of the realistic options (we were never landing Brady) - no one has hit the ceiling that Foles has in his career (nor have they come close). Foles has failed when he's been relied upon to turn around failing franchises/offenses singlehandedly (STL/JAX). However, when you put him into a comfortable system (which this is for him) and give him some talent/parts. He tends to win games and play well.
I don't know exactly what people wanted or thought that they were going to get.
