Yount for no real reason outside of an additional MVP and better MVP years.

Fact: Larkin was originally drafted by the Red out of high school. He opted instead to accept a scholarship to the University of Michigan, FOR FOOTBALL. He informed Bo that he was going to also play on the baseball team and he no longer had a football scholarship, or a football career.

I was on a baseball scholarship at Michigan for one year, 1986 and knew Larkin fairly well. He was revered at Michigan and a great guy.

All this makes it harder to say that Yount was a superior player in almost every aspect of the game. I think a better comparison would be between Yount and Ripken Jr.

I don't know the stats but it would be interesting to see a month-by-month breakdown of Yount's career. It seemed like he came out of the gates blazing every year.

Yount because of longevity. But even then, it's very close. Larkin was a better baserunner and fielder. Also probably the better hitter.

But Larkin was a better base stealer!...

Overall, of course, Yount...

But if we were to make this a short stop comp, you'd have to say Larkin...

Yount played 11 years 1400 games at short - then shifted to OF for 10 years (1200 games)

Larkin played all 19 seasons at short (2000 games)....

Excellent comp!

If larkin played more games then he would have been better than yount... I just cant get past the fact larkin averaged 114 games per season...

Larkin was the better player, but the better career is not even close... Yount clearly had the better career...

Not sure I agree that Larkin was the better player. It's not like Yount left the SS position to play a corner outfield position. He played center field which is almost as demanding as SS. Larkin also spent some of his best years playing college baseball, whereas Yount was in the majors at 18 years old.

Larkin had a better BA,OBP, better HR/AB ratio, more SB, HIgher OPS+(for you advanced guys) than yount...

But Larkin only played 140 or more games 7 times in his career and averaged only 114-115 games per season...

Larkin was clearly better as a player, but his career was just not healthy enough to be compared to yount...

If the question is if healthy who would i rather have on my team it is clearly larkin... But for who had the better career, it is not even close Yount by a landslide
