NFL.com Elliot Harrison ranked the coaches and had Pete Carroll at #7. To me it seemed like he was ranking coaches from there body of work which I guess #7 is pretty good considering where the Hawks were just a few short years ago.

Top 10

1) Bill Belichick
2) Sean Payton
3) Jim Harbaugh
4) John Harbaugh
5) Tom Coughlin
6) Mike McCarthy
7) Pete Carroll
8) John Fox
9) Mike Tomlin
10) Andy Reid

Meh. I question John Harbaugh being placed so high but if the Seahawks can dominate again this season, expect Pete to be rated in the top two.

The article was stupid. He dinged Carroll for going 7-9 twice but failed to mention that they completely overturned the roster in the last 4 years. What Carroll and Schneider did here is one of the greatest rebuild jobs of all time.

I'd take Jeff Fisher over all of them.

I do agree that Jim Harbaugh is ranked a little high on the chart. He took over a talented team that past coaches couldn't put together and he's done a real good job making them SB Contenders, but he has failed winning 3 big games. The Super Bowl for one and two NFC Title games they lost. So I would have Pete Carroll ranked at least one spot higher then Jimmy Harbs.

You'd think that a championship would offset those 7-9 seasons, which were a result of rebuilding the roster, especially given that one of those 7-9 seasons featured a playoff win over the defending champs. I give Harbaugh some credit for taking his team to the NFC Championship game in his first three years in San Francisco, but I think winning a championship should put Carroll ahead of him. If Harbaugh had won the title two years ago when the Niners made it to the Super Bowl, you could make a better case for putting him ahead of Carroll, but I think Carroll's 1-0 record in the Super Bowl puts him ahead of Harbaugh. Just my opinion, of course.

I said this on the NFL general board too, but I don't get how Jimmy is higher than his brother considering John has won both head to head match-ups including one in the Super Bowl where Jim clearly had the more talented team.

Oh and I guess I'll say it since nobody else has but, the guy who got caught cheating is number one on the list. Not saying he's a bad coach, but I guess that whole cheating thing is just water under the bridge now?

Mike Tomlin at #9? What has he done since the remnants of Cowhers reign has all but dried up?

for the most part, that list shows that a coach is only as good as his qb.

You may think his comments are lame, but the fact is the Pats haven't won a SB since being busted for video taping and that's something you can't deny. My opinion on that subject is that video tape can only go so far, but the players still have to play the game.
