As much as the UM and OSU fan bases dislike each other because of the teams we root for -- in the end, Thad Matta and John Beilein reminded me, it is nothing more than games these kids are playing.
On the suggestion of Thad Matta's wife -- OSU's basketball staff and players got together with UM's basketball staff and players to decorate the home of Lloyd Carr's 5 year old grandson (Chad). He was diagnosed with a rare inoperable brain tumor and given a very short time to live. They moved him to hospice care at his home for his final days.
As the father of a 2 1/2 year old boy -- the story made me tear up as I couldn't imagine what that child and his parents are going thru. To put aside the rivalry and do something so selfless to make a little boy's last days happier is amazing.
