Teemu Selanne's rookie goals.

That is fucking amazing for anyone. Rookie or Vet. If a rookie is doing it without the experience in the league...damn.

Now if a goalie scores 70 something goals in his rookie season...

What records in the NHL (team or player) do you think will be the hardest to break?
To start just pick one or two per post.

Fastest three Goals in a single game: Bill Mosienko , 21 seconds. Reason, I just don't see how it can be done any faster.

Consecutive Stanley Cups: Montreal Canadiens, 5. Reason, With the salary cap and free agency it's too hard to keep all your star players very long.

Now you're talking my era. I was at the third game of the 1960 Cup Final and saw the Habs beat the Leafs, in Toronto, on the road to their fifth consecutive and record setting Stanley Cup win.

I was a Linesman when Billy Mosienko played and then coached the Winnipeg Warriors of the Western Hockey League after he ended his NHL career. He was always a Winnipeg favorite and has a hockey rink named after him.

He actually set an even bigger record that season:

Mario's 5 goals every possible way in 1 game (even strenght, short handed, power play, penalty shot and empty netter)...the stars would really have to align for that to happen again...

It has to be Gretzky's 215. The best in the games average about a point per game, he roughly tripled that.

I think Ovechkin could make a run at 92 goals if he stops with the unnecessary suspensions. I don't know that I've seen a goal-scorer with his talent before (adjusting the numbers to each era).

Consecutive Stanley Cups is another one. I don't know if we're including team records, but...

I dont think there are any records that are untouchable.

Not true. If you look at Rick T's about Mario "Mario's 5 goals every possible way in 1 game (even strenght, short handed, power play, penalty shot and empty netter)...the stars would really have to align for that to happen again...

It could be matched but how could you break it?

Shootout goal. I mean, you're relying on a rare empty net goal in the middle of the game on a delayed penalty or having the other team score two to tie late, but yeah, it's possible.

Did anyone mention gretzky's 50 goals in 39 games ???

hard to believe anyone will come within 5 games of that record.

Would it be the same though? Shootout goals are not really goals. They don't count in a player's goal totals for a season. There are goals and then there are shootout goals. The scenario you describe is a player scoring 5 goals and 1 shootout goal. If a player entered a game with 30 goals and did that, he'd leave the game with 35 goals to his name, not 36.

It would certainly be impressive, but I'm not sure it would break the 5 goals 5 different ways record. I don't know though.

9 straight 50 goal seasons...Mike Bossy will never be tied let alone broken.

19 striaght playoff series wins 1980-1984 New York Islanders. No one will probably ever reach 11.

Also, a shootout goal would basically be another penalty shot goal.

The way you can break it is this. Those five kinds of goals, and an AWARDED goal. Either you are tripped on an empty net breakaway or the other team puts it in their own net and you were the last to touch it.

Good. Freaking. Luck.

I'll place my vote for Gretzky's record for most records. Especially considering how many records have come up for unbreakable. If you have to break an unbreakable number of unbreakable records, you're probably not going to succeed.

Wow, that last sentence.... thank goodness I'm not being graded....

Also, I typo-ed Gretzky's name initially and Firefox noticed the mistake. I just started using Firefox, and I'm glad of my decision to do so now.
