I never have been and never will be a fan of guys in their mid 40's hanging on after they've made their fortunes and taking a roster spot away from a young guy.
Didn't like Jamie Moyer, Julio Franco, Ichiro, Tim Wakefield or Randy Johnson either.
Cap a player's age at 40.
I'd agree if those 40+ players were playing like shit, but Colon has a 98 ERA+ (about league average) over the last six seasons and he was good for 28+ starts in each of those seasons (190+ innings in four seasons). He's been worth 10.2 WAR over that span. There's a lot of value in guys that can be league average and pitch a lot of innings, and 190 innings is pretty good in this era.
He blew dick for the Braves, I don't wish injury, but I wouldn't really be upset if he caught a liner off the forehead.
I don't blame you for that, he was pretty awful last year. He's pitched reasonably well thus far (3.55 ERA in Arlington, 3.88 xFIP). The .210 BABIP will regress a lot, but he's been pretty unlucky with home runs (20.6% HR/FB rate). I don't think it's a stretch to say he's a much better pitcher than Wakefield was in his last few years, and Colon at least does a great job limiting walks. Wakefield was completely reliant on a volatile pitch.
I don't think it's bad luck with the homers. He gave up a ton of them last year too. When he's off with his location, he's gonna get hammered.

Well. I'm guessing his career is at an end.
RHP Colon of Athletics suspended 50 games
Oops, nevermind. I didn't catch the year.This isn't 2012.

13/7 nowThat HR/BB ratio (13/5). Carlos Silva walked 9 batters in 188.1 innings in 2005 while giving up 25 home runs.
