So how does this monarchy work?
Does Cersei go back to Queen regent? or does this now technically make Stannis the King now?
How does this technically work for who is in charge?

Well technically Stannis has always been the true king since Joffrey is an ince$t bastard. But since Joffrey is considered a Baratheon, the crown would pass to his younger brother Tommen. Stannis is then next in the line of succession. Since the Joffrey-Margery marriage was never consummated ( much like Margery's marriage to Renly) it will likely be annulled. Cersei is still the Queen regent unless Tommen marries.

I think Tywin has a lot to do with it. He probably knew that his grand son was losing it. Did you notice the look on his face when he chopped the books into pieces that were gifted to him from his uncle.

On the other hand, you have Cersei who would do anything to keep the crown. People claim that she wouldn't kill her son but, if you remember in one of the other seasons, she was planning on doing him in if King's landing were to be sacked by Stannis.

Then you have that fool who seemed to know what was going down all too soon.

There appears to be a lot of directions this could take, which is what makes the show so entertaining.

with primogeniture, the crown goes to the king's eldest son.

if there is no son, then it goes to the king's oldest living brother. in this case, that would be tommen. he's next in line, and cersei is queen regent until he comes of age.

this is not difficult.

don't you all remember that stanis was robert's brother, and he claimed the throne because he knew joffrey (and cersei's other kids) wasn't actually robert's son?

ring a bell? lol.

also, stannis doesn't consider himself in line to be king, he considers himself to be the king.

again, it's because of primogeniture.

Cersei goes back to Queen regent. Tommen is now king by the laws of Kings Landing.

Stannis believes himself to be the rightful king because he believes (correctly) that none of the Lannister children were spawn of King Robert.

Dany believes she is the rightful queen and vows to take back the throne.

The interesting part is that Margaery was wed to the king, albeit for only a few hours. She has claim to the throne as well. Don't think for a minute that the Tyrells are going to just step aside and let her claim go unfulfilled.

Also, by the laws of Dorne (where Tommen's older sister is now thanks to Tyrion and where Prince Oberyn is from), SHE is the rightful queen because they believe the laws of succession pass by family and age, regardless of gender.

Foundations for war are certainly ripe for explosion unless the situation is diffused quickly and intelligently...certainly Cersei is up to the task. Right? :laugh3:

Cersei is described as one of the most beautiful women in all the country. But she obviously suffers from severe mental problems. It's obvious that Joffrey inherited it and the coddling of his behavior by his mother only amplified it and feed it. Robert Baratheon recognized that the kid had serious issues as a child and wanted to beat the crap out of him many times, but Cersei would do what she could to keep them separated.

Tyrion said it best to her, "Your two best qualities are your cheek bones and that you love your children".

The wedding was a perfect example of this. During all of Joffrey's outbursts and cruel behavior during the day and the celebration afterwards, she's the only one laughing with Joffrey during it all. Everyone else had that "WTF?" look on their faces. Especially during the show when he had the midgets out there playing all the kings, including mocking the death of the Stark men with Sansa sitting right there at the head table.

And to make matter worse, these kids were the products of ince$t with a twin brother. Not only did they inherit the batshit crazy gene from her mother, but they also would be battling the genetic issues from their parentage.

Good looking people with mental problems can get away with a causing hell to everyone around them for a long time, but once they get older, eventually, it catches up with them. Same with her. But many will suffer by this for a very long time.

Regarding the murder of the king, here's another theory that has been floating around.

It's not mentioned on the show and often forgotten among book readers, but Cersei (and obviously Jaime and Tyrion as well) is a product of ince$t herself. The mother was Tywin's 1st cousin.

actually they do mention it in the 1st year.
Cersei & her brother talk about it. She worried if she was being punished or if it was a mistake. She was told that their bloodline has done it forever (not exact words)

To add to her issues, its mentioned often in the books thanks to some later 1st person chapters with Cersei, she received a foreboding prophecy as a child about her future and has been living in paranoia ever since.

I'm aware of who killed joffrey and how and I don't like to spoil.

But. I will say, to anyone who things Cersei is involved... No. In the books, she is almost psychopathically protective over them. Joffrey's death is devastating to her.

Stupid bitch.

I suspect we will discover who was behind the murder tonight, but if its anything like the books, the details will take a few episodes.
