Oklahoma football: Gabe Ikard on SI.com's Preseason All-America team | News OK
IKARD NAMED SI ALL-AMERICAN
Oklahoma center Gabe Ikard is the lone Sooner on SI.com's Preseason All-America team, which was released Thursday.
Ikard, a senior, is one of three Big 12 players on the first team. He's joined by Baylor guard Cyril Richardson and TCU cornerback Jason Verrett.
Notre Dame defensive end Stephon Tuitt also made the first team. The Sooners will play at Notre Dame on Sept. 28.
Five more Big 12 players were named to the second team.
Ikard missed the end of spring practices after suffering a broken hand but has recovered and is expected to anchor the offensive line. He has started 37 games on the offensive line at OU. He started 12 games at left guard as a redshirt freshman, 13 between guard and center as a sophomore and 12 more last year. He missed the win over Baylor after suffering a concussion and moved to guard for the win over TCU and a Cotton Bowl loss to Texas A&M after Adam Shead was injured.
