Ever watch an NCAA game, and they talk about Red Zone %? For this stat, they count field goals the same way they count TD's. One team could have 30 points on 10 trips, and the other team could have 70 points, but their "Red Zone %" is equal.

Well, folks.... here is my Red Zone stat. Points scored per trip to the red zone.

Notre Dame is really shooting themselves in the foot this season.

You have to wonder just how good they might be able to be.

Some surprises.........

Alabama is #36 in red zone offense according to the NCAA, but they are #82 if you go by points scored per red zone trip.

Florida is #16 in red zone offense according to the NCAA... but they are #52 in points scored per red zone trip.

Oklahoma is #36 in red zone offense according to the NCAA.... but they are #71 in points scored per red zone trip.

What's the ratio of points scored in the red zone/points scored outside the red zone?

Basically you are looking for which teams make the biggest plays for TD's?

I guess I could do one where I take the red zone points subtracted from total points.... and then divide that by total points to give you the ratio.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering...how many teams rely on the big play to score is surprising anymore.

Give me just a few minutes my good sir.

I think I'm getting the hang of doing these quickly.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised to see GT so high considering the amount of big scoring plays they've had. Clemson just hasn't been in the red zone a lot this year, but if we can still score 30+, I can't say I'm all that upset about it.

Keep in mind that for this stat.... a long field goal would actually count as a "big play"

I was a little surprised that GT has scored more points from inside the redzone than outside of the redzone as well... but it is close.

I suppose Clemson may be more "balanced" with scoring in/out of the RZ than I originally thought. Don't really care a whole lot, as long as we come away with points inside the 20 and continue to score 30+.

Clemson just barely missed the top 25. They have scored 48% of their points from outside of the red zone. 79 points in the red zone, 72 points outside the red zone.

Georgia Tech is at 41%. 126 points in the red zone, 87 points from outside the red zone.

I sometimes think Heupel has the same problem as Wilson once OU gets in the red zone...they call the plays backwards...because we definitely have a back in Whaley who should be able to run it in from the 3 yard line. But do they do that, no, they throw the fade to the back corner and hope for the best.

Ah, I miss the days when Georgia Tech could get a guaranteed TD with a fade to the corner. We miss you, Calvin Johnson.

Careful. Reggie Ball was the one throwing it to him. If you wish for those days, better think about what you are actually wishing for.

The bigger problem was Patrick Nix calling the plays. Jesus that guy was worthless.

One of the happiest days in the Chan Gailey era was when Miami "stole" him from us. LMAO, what were those morons thinking.

That second one you did is an amazing stat...out of those 25 teams that score the most points outside the red zone only 1 is ranked in the top 25...SCAR. You could interpret that many different ways but the way I see is that SCAR could have some issues in league play this year.
