Depends on how many paces. Most of my training is focused on likely self defense scenarios, that being at close range and getting as many center mass shots on target as possible.

Smartest thing I learned to do in a bad scenario is go into a soft focus mode where I don't get tunnel vision and zone in on any one thing. It helps me see the bigger picture and watch for subtle movements. Also helps me slow things down.
