Happy to see Nate starting the year off well. He started the cubbies' first 3 games, is 2-fer-6 with a single and a HR (and 2 BBs and a HBP): .333/.556/.833/1.389. His HR in the 3rd game turned out to be the difference in the game, giving the win to CHI.

Hope he can stay healthy and get a nice payday before retiring. (This year his one year salary is just a tad less than his total career MLB earnings pre-2013.)

If this series is any indication, I bet Cubbies' fans are *loving* the signing of Nate.

Baseball is weird that way, sometimes players move around and their performance changes...would anyone prefer him still here, playing RF so Pence could be in left?

Conor Gillaspie now 12 for 27 with the other Chicago, with a few xbh. 1.037 OPS. Yes, small sample size, but just like with Nate happy he is doing well so far.

It is weird, it happens all the time in hockey too. It's also weird that some players just dominate certain teams (i.e. - Hairston with us).

As for Nate still being here, in a perfect world, yes. However, he asked for a trade and I think his heart wasn't here (SF) anymore. He had too many skeletons in the closet here to overcome. So in a video game world, yes, I'd prefer Nate to a Blanco/Torres platoon, but I don't think Nate wanted to come back here.

Conor will come back down to Earth. That kid is a 1 trick pony (in that he's a singles hitter).....unless he goes the "Melky Route" and gets a new strength coach and workout regimen. :D I don't necessarily dislike Conor (and I definitely don't hope he fails or anything), but he always seemed like kind of a dooshbag imhumbleo. I really like Nate though and am happy that he's seemingly found a home (even though it's still early).

I think that'd be a superior option to the Blanco/Torres platoon...

Yeah, I think we can all agree on that but like filo said it never really was gonna happen, he'd done all he could here, kind of burned out.

I remember rumors of offers by other teams this off-season. I figured that he took the Cubs offer because at the time (when he signed) there was a starting OF spot open, and he wanted to be a starting RF. He knew Bochy would never let him start, so he sure wasn't coming back here.

He was probably both pissed and somewhat scared when the cubbies signed Hairston just before ST.

3 of the 4 are having acceptable/good years. Mr Pasteurized Melk is the only one having a "bad" year.

Just to add on here, Jerome Williams is doing an admirable job in filling in on the Angels rotation. And, thinking of another I saw coming up in San Jose, does anyone have any info on Travis Ishikawa? I know he was with the Brewers, but he seems to have disappeared.
