Here's what Saban has to say about it...

"What we'd really like to do is try to develop some confidence and consistency in some of the younger players and polish up the older players so that we can make some good evaluations on who might be able to help us in (games)," UA coach Nick Saban said. "Who is worth, based on the scrimmage evaluation and guys going out there being able to perform and be competitors, who is it that's going to be worth investing the time in to try to develop, who has the ability to sustain a high level of performance so that they can contribute to the team.

"That's something that we want to come out of the camp knowing. We may not know it after this scrimmage, but it'll be a big step. I think the big thing is you can't really evaluate that if the guy doesn't know what to do. For some of these young guys, that's pretty challenging right now."

Also, from another site:

-- First-team offense and first-team defense did well, made good plays and showed toughness.

-- Older players have more mental toughness and can play to their max.

-- Young players were sloppy. Made some good plays and mental mistakes.

-- It's a great opportunity to show younger players what they need to do to improve.

-- "I'm not at all disappointed in where we are. We're just going to keep on keeping on."

-- AJ McCarron played well but got his foot stepped on. His foot is bruised, but it's not a problem. He did not participate in the two-minute drill at the end.
-- Amari Cooper had four catches, three for touchdowns.

-- Jalston Fowler looked good in the passing game.

-- Many running backs "all did some good things."

-- Cornerback Deion Belue did not participate because of a hamstring issue.

-- Freshman LB Reuben Foster suffered a stinger.

-- Derrick Henry made some good runs.

-- T.J. Yeldon didn't run often but ran well.

-- Freshman RB Altee Tenpenny "ran it well."

-- Fowler will contribute this fall as a RB and an H-back.

-- Offensive line didn't play with a lot of power. There's room to improve.

-- "This scrimmage tells us who we should be working with."

-- It sounded as if the defense didn't shine.

-- All in all, Saban seems pleased with the skill players but not the guys in the trenches

Two things that concern me coming off this scrimmage are the offensive line and and Deion Belue.

We don't have enough depth at CB for him to be getting hurt, so I hope he gets over this quick and has plenty of practice time before the season.

I also didn't like hearing the offensive line didn't have as much push as we want. but hell I guess it's only the first scrimmage, I'm sure we'll get it together.

Hopefully a product of who was on the defensive line. Always hard to tell what's what in scrimmage games from a team standpoint, seems more useful for individuals. IE: Is the offense great, or is the defense horrible and vice versa.

I'm thinking Dee Milliner,Chance Warmack and DJ Fluker spoiled hell out of all the past 2 years and will be very difficult to replace.

Barret Jones as well. Can't replace that kind of experience.

Yeah Cooper is a monster, but I'm also excited to see Falkins and Black out there. A lot of hype surrounding those two, I'm eager to see if they live up to it.
