800K is extreemly reasonable, I like it as well. I'm sure you know but you didn't say it in the OP, it was a 1 year deal and one way (duh)

We kinda knew we'd sign Boyd somewhere in the $0.7-1.0 million range. The guy is probably the least important and most clutch guy on the 4th line all rolled into one. He showed his versatility in the playoffs.

So, as expected - the 1st and 4th lines are set and the team made no efforts (sigh) to change or add personnel on D. So, it seems like it's just a matter of figuring out

(1) how much we get Fehr, Flash, and Schultz for and
(2) figuring out how to structure and fill out the 2nd and 3rd lines

Let's hope his back isn't an issue, because if/when it is, Steve Pinizzotto may get his shot in DC.

Free agency does not end at midnight on July 1. There are still plenty of options to upgrade our defense with what it needs:

Players that
1. are nasty and physical
2. are stay at home
3. are veterans
4. will take a shortened contract
5. do not demand to be extremely overpayed

Do you think Volchenkov is overpaid? I think his contract seemed quite reasonable all told (especially if the cap continues to rise over the longer term.
