Let's talk about the smaller schools for a change. Ya got ties to any of these?

My ties are really to Willamette University. I was following them when they were NAIA, made the playoffs in NJ. I think they moved up to NCAA D3 the next year. I moved back to AZ and lost track of them.

For the history buffs, since the Four Horseman are mentioned, which team did the Notre Dame Four Horseman have a difficult time with?

I follow D3 Redlands a little bit. The school is about a 1/2 hour or so from where I live. Learned about them from a girl that I used to work with and became friends with who was a graduate and played on their women's basketball team.

They're usually solid and ranked in the top 25 in D3. They are 0-2 right now, but it seems mainly to be because they chose to play a very tough OOC schedule.

It'll be interesting to see if it pays off like the coaches are hoping it will.

Very cool.

I learned some stuff. Which conference some of these lesser division teams are in etc.

I see the state of Oregon has a top 5 in FBS, D3, and #1 in NAIA Southern Oregon , coach Helfrich's alma mater where he played QB....

:yahoo:

Linfeild, a D3 is a school that was 12 miles from my small home town. Very good winning tradition there. Ranked 3 currently.

As per the College Football Data Warehouse, it looks like the Irish' toughest game was Army (whom they only beat by 6 points.)

For the last three years, I taught at the Claremont Colleges and had students who played for CMS as well as Pomona-Pitzer in the same conference (SCIAC) as Redlands. In general, the SCIAC is not terribly competitive against the rest of the nation. Currently, no SCIAC teams have a winning record. However, both CMS and Whittier have wins over Lewis and Clark. For whatever it is worth.

The highest ranked non-FBS team is (surprise) North Dakota State at #41.
The top DII team is Henderson State (88)
The top DIII team is Wesleyan (121) but you have to take it with a grain of salt since the NESCAC teams have played no out-of-conference games and can't be compared to anyone outside the conference.
The top NAIA team is St. Xavier (142.)

Enjoy!
