His injury history will fit well next to Anderson, McCarthy, and Ryu.

This makes no sense. You give up Greinke's age 32, 33, 34, & 35 seasons because you didn't want to pay for his age 36 & 37 seasons, then you go out & pay a guy with injury concerns, for his age 35, 36, & 37 seasons?

Because committing 3/45 or whatever it's gonna be is the same as 6/206... come on man

yeah, everyone moves up a spot. Cubs are also rumored in talks for a closer when that seemed the strong point of the pen when Rondon was settled in. I guess as long as he is out of the central its better for my team.

I don't think it's all that bad a deal, considering it's just three years....and as for his age, look how well a guy like Kiroda pitched until he left the majors around age 40 to go back to Japan. I think the potential upside with Japanese pitchers (who came to the majors well into their careers) is that there's not as much mileage on their arms given that the Japanese season is shorter. If I recall, his MLB injuries weren't things that are likely to repeat or significantly affect him down the line.

You guys sure make a guy with a MLB career ERA of 3.12 sound bad. He had a strained lat in April before finishing the rest of the season.

He's a good pitcher, it's the age and injury issues in the past that would worry me. He's got at least 1 or 2 good seasons left, maybe all 3. But for a team with multiple starters returning from 2015's where they barely pitched or didn't at all(McCarthy and Ryu), and having Anderson who has dealt with injury problems, it means they'll be relying on a lot of guys to stay healthy that have had trouble with it in the past. I expect them to go out and get at least one more starter to help improve the depth.

Age means very little for a pitcher. Especially for a guy that's mostly pitched in Japan (where the seasons are shorter).

Not true. Theres a reason why pitchers often don't pitch into their late 30's...father time gets to us all.

But many times it's because they had heavier workloads when they were younger.

Look at a guy like Kuroda who never had a bad year in his MLB career, which lasted from ages 33-39. Or a guy like Uehara who's still a dominant reliever at age 40 (and came to the majors at age 34). Or a guy like Saito a few years back who was a dominant reliever from ages 36-41 in the majors.

Being in Japan for their entire 20s and early 30s probably helped him given that it's a shorter season and hence less mileage on the bodies/arms.

I don't think many would be surprised to see Iwakuma have a similar performance in his 30s. It's not like he was consistently logging 220+ inning seasons in his Japanese career. From age 21-30 in Japan, he averaged about 150 innings/season. Not to mention, he's not a power pitcher, so it's less likely that he crashes and burns.

You get trigger shy after you shell out millions and get no results. If you can't make a legit WS run with Kershaw and Greinke, you have issues.
