Why not trade pick 3 to Philly. Surely they don't think the Forward from Cal is a better talent then Noel or Okafor?
They don't like Noel. That's really the only reason not to do the deal that was offer. Can't say I blame them personally. I'm not that high on him either. I don't think he ever gets past middling to decent journyman status
I feel the same about Brown. And I'm a Cal fan. Don't get it. All he is to me is super athletic, fast and strong. Not a good shooter, not much handle, etc. Maybe will turn into a lockdown defender I guess. He probably reminds some of Russell Westbrook but I will be shocked if he ever approaches that

The problem with what Boston did was that they failed to capitalize on the Dunn hype.
They should have drafted him and they could have put him in a package to acquire Jimmy Butler. Forget Noel and Okafor, that was the play for the Celts. Something like Dunn, Crowder and Boston's future 2018 first rounder might have gotten it done.
Now they are stuck with a good athlete who will someday develop into a 3rd or 4th starter type. When you are on the verge of building a contender, you need to get more out of that pick.
I also would have taken Dunn. But Dunn is believed to be a little unstable and has shoulder issues. The hype was high so trading it before the draft would have been best. Danny is starting to stack a bunch of defensive wings with these picks. Hmmm.
I get your point tlance. Brown is super smart and he shot well in his special Celtic workout. He is going to be able to play 3'amd 4 That French freak can play 3,4 and the 5 at 6 foot 8. I think Brad and Danny want a ton of crowders.
