OutlawImmortal, Evan Longoria especially is not going to be intimidated by Dodger Stadium,
or any other ball park.

He's the Ray I would most like to see my Sox acquire some day. He does EVERYTHING
at All-Star level.

Longo is a fucking stud. I wouldn't mind having him Hellickson or Price. I love how the Rays develop their talent.

Longoria is a stud, I think he's one of the best players in the league. The guy's a pro.

I was just pointing out the fact that AL pitchers don't ever go up to bat or face pitchers, so when you have guys like Greinke and Kershaw, it can be a nice little advantage.

On the other hand they have to face stronger offensive line-ups in the AL.

Most pitchers are poor or even pathetic hitters. I've been watching baseball
at both the AAA level where I grew up, and the MLB since moving to Boston
a long time ago. I know from watching them how bad most pitchers are offensively.

They HAVE to be defensive specialists!

Grienke is a really good hitter as is Kershaw....
AL hitters aren't fairing so well this weekend at Chavez ravine

Greinke and Kershaw may both be good hitters, but that doesn't change
the general rule.

I prefer having pitchers bat because it gets strategic later in games when managers have to account for pitching changes and double switches. To each its own though...

The DH never should have been implemented. It is interesting to note that in the 1920's the NL wanted to adopt the DH rule, but the AL voted against it. Times sure changed. The AL, using the DH, is a watered down version of the game of baseball.

That being said, most pitchers in the NL are not good hitters.

Dodgers in this series made the Rays look like a run of the mill team.

Greinke and Kershaw both being good hitters makes them exceptions tothe rule
without changing it.

Most pitchers ARE poor hitters.

In fact many pitchers did not become pitchers until after they accepted the idea that they
would never hit well enough to make MLB at another position.

I have to disagree about that.

The way the game is played pitchers HAVE to be defensive specialists
because they are the very foundation of a team's defense. So one offensive specialist
to balance things out is quite acceptable to me.

I would like to see both leagues using the same rule, whether with or without the DH,
but would prefer with the DH.

Everyone has their own opinion on the DH. I believe that if you are going to hit, you should be playing defense as well. I like the strategy that comes with the pitcher hitting. That strategy is, for the most part, lost in the AL. I do realize that the DH prolongs careers. Not sure David Ortiz would still be playing if it wasn't for the DH. If he had to play 1B, I not sure the Red Sox would be a first place team.

Every player should be good defensively including pitchers. I'm not persuaded pitchers are the foundation of a team's defense. I rather think it surrounds the catcher, middle infielders, and CF. I believe most every team is more interested in how a pitcher pitches rather than how well he fields his position. It certainly helps to have a good fielding pitcher, but it's secondary to his ability to get hitters out with his arm.
