What a terrific page, showing the amount clubs are spending on the players on the DL. Giants are dead last in spending on the DL.

Spanks and Dogs are 1-2.

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/05/13/sports/baseball/money-on-the-bench.html?hp&_r=4&amp

My take-away on looking at the list is "don't give lots of money to free agent pitchers". Look at the big-salary guys on the DL for the top 15 or so teams.

The Yankers are prominent because :
1) they spend more than everyone (no surprise there)
2) Not one of the top 4-paid guys currently on the DL are pitchers!

Most other teams in the top 15 their top-paid guy on the DL is a pitcher. And if the top guy *isn't* a pitcher, it's the second one. And often it's two of the 4 highest paid on the DL.

So ... don't tie up lots of money in older, FA pitchers. Grow them yourself.

Also, fuck the Dodgers.

From Pavlovic:

Even more shots are being fired in Milwaukee, where the Dodgers are playing the Brewers. Don Mattingly benched Andre Ethier against a right-handed pitcher, saying: “I’m putting out my lineup that I feel is going to be the most competitive and going to compete the hardest.”

Mattingly told Dodgers beat writers that the team has to compete harder.

“There has to be a mixture of competitiveness. It’s not ‘Let’s put an All-Star team together and the All-Star team wins.’ It’s finding that balance of a team that has a little bit of grit and will fight you. And also having talent to go with it. All grit and no talent isn’t going to make you successful. But all talent and no grit isn’t going to get you there either.”

All talent and no grit. That's the 2013 Dodgers.

Still a TON of baseball left, I still think it's a 3 team race for the division. And myabe 4 if the Rox are for real.

To think we were very interested in Brandon League last season. Ugh. Guy's ERA is over 6.00. Just gave the Snakes four runs in the top of the 9th to blow a 3-1 lead, now the Dogs trail 5-3.

As long as Puig doesn't bat with runners on, the Snakes should be in fine shape....

(I posted this is the other thread but...)

I don't understand why they have Jansen as the setup/7th inning guy still. He is by far their best relief pitcher and League has blown some bad saves this season.

Even though I'm out of the country, I still feel the same joy seeing the Dodgers 10 games below .500.

Me, too, but since the post the Dogs are 7-3

Giants are 2-7

Be careful..... :D

Did you really need to resurrect this thread?

We really have nothing to point fingers at right now.
