It's said to believe Bonds STARTING using steroids right after that 1998 HR race...he results didn't hit the UNBELIEVABLE mark until that 01 season

MLB's biggest problem, across its lifetime, is a perceived need to tinker with itself. For every decent improvement, such as night games, there's a dozen stupid bonehead changes, like wearing shorts, video review or juicing the ball.
They screwed the pooch when they stopped letting the batter request a low or high pitch to hit.

Don't even get me started on those fucking pansies wearing gloves!!!!

Right, Bonds was ticked that nobody was paying attention to him.

Removing collisions at second and Home didn't more damage than roids

Coupled with instant replay and a generation raised on ADD meds.

The 24/7 news cycle led by ESPN ruined baseball. That and the holier-than-thou baseball fans that plain overlooked what was SOP in the NFL.

so, I watched the 30 for 30 last night about Sosa and McGwire...

And it made me think, about why baseball is a dying sport...

I came to the conclusion, that we all applauded the steroid era until Bonds... and once we looked down on the steroid era, then baseball was dead...

The steroid era evolved baseball into the Home-run strike out game, it also showed how cheating in baseball was rampant...

so, would we have cared as much if Bonds didn't do it??

Conclusion- Bonds Broke baseball...
The players union broke baseball.

Has attendance and TV money gone way down in recent years (other than this one)?

I thought baseball had been pretty financially healthy going into this year.

Or is "ruined" a multi-faceted, largely subjective, metric?

Yeah, I had pretty much the same question. By what measure are we saying that baseball has been ruined.

to add to that he had some of the best seasons of all time using... Not just one season, like Big Mac... and big mac was only about the HRs... Bonds had 4 seasons...
No question that Bonds was a lot better, but Mac also had 65HRs in 1999 along with 58, 49, and 42 HR seasons.

You could argue Bonds did. Of all of the guys who massively cheated, realistically only the 3 biggest dickheads are really considered cheaters. You have Bonds, Clemens and Palmerio. David Ortiz cheated worse than those 3 combined since those three were all major leaguers, Ortiz was a AA player. But he was colorful and friendly. No one really hates Sosa once they found out and McGwire maybe but he lucked out that Barry was such a prick to everyone that he was a second thought.

But the real answer is no. Fans who ever thought Barry Bonds was better than Ken Griffey Junior were who ruined baseball.

Yeah, I included Brady in my analysis. The guy had only broken the 20 HR mark once before that, and suddenly hit 50. "Nothing was ever proven though..." :ohwell:

the year before he hit 50, he only hit 16. the year after he hit 50, he only hit 18. Brady Anderson's 50 HR season has to be one of the biggest anomalies in the history of north american sports

LOL

as a kid during this time, McGwire and Sosa were household names. You may have not known a lot about baseball but you knew who Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were

i didn't know about Bonds until i started watching baseball full-time in 2001. That just so happened to coincide with his 73 homer season

I'll say no. Baseball had already shifted to a home run friendly game before Bonds really threatened Aaron's record. I still think the ball was juiced in the 90's (and today).

You're delusional.

Bonds: .298/.444/.607, 182 OPS+, 514 stolen bases (caught 141 times), 162.8 WAR
Griffey Jr.: .284/.370/.538, 136 OPS+, 184 stolen bases (caught 69 times) 83.8 WAR
