Clearly there needs to be some balance, but if I had to chhose between a stronger offense & defense... I would choose D everytime.

"Defense does not win championships. They give you a chance." - Warren Sapp

Unless your defense scores on its own through a safety, return INT or fumble, it is the offense that outscores the opponent. The defense can set the offense up in great position to score, but I haven't seen many 2-0 games.

A truly great team needs to be balanced in all facets of the game.

And it's that simple.

I disagree, the following BCS champs and what their offensive output was:

'04 USC - Averaged 450 yds a game and 38 ppg

'05 Texas - Averaged 512 yds a game and 50 ppg

'06 UF - Averaged 400 yds a game and 30 ppg

'07 LSU - Averaged 440 yds a game and 39 ppg

'08 UF - Averaged 445 yds a game and 43 ppg

'10 AU - Averaged 500 yds a game and 41 ppg

'09 Bama is the exception to your theory, as they won during the season with a very good defense and a good, not great, offense.

I don't know....having a decent kicker would probably have some kind of effect.
